These tough Westies. We had three of them. One still going strong. They get old so well. You get a new one? They are so nice.

She was our third Westie and by far the best dog ever. We have had a dog since we married 48 years ago but we will not get another as we are both 69 now and feel if another Westie lived to even 14 we would not be able to look after it properly, also I cannot have another broken heart.

    Unhappy Goodbye little Sid

Had to say goodbye to this little fella this evening. I’m in hospital with a broken leg so couldn’t be with him which hurts my heart.
But it was his time and he had a great life.

Sorry to hear mate. For your dog as for yourself. Remember that god didn’t give dogs wings so we wouldn’t know they’re angels.

So sorry to hear that Enoch. Being unable to be with him, I can’t imagine how that must feel.
You’re having a pretty rough time of it at the moment, but things will get better.
Just remember he had a great life, and he was loved for all of it.

What a cutie. They're the best dogs in the world. But get him trained, they are stubborn and please fit Dach ramps where appropriate to save stress on his spine jumping up and off things. I'm sure he will bring you and your partner so much joy!

Beautiful and a good name for a dachshund!

Elvis earlier this morning. We had a short but very strong storm on Friday evening. A dead birch broke. Elvis is eye-balling the overload of ‘sticks’!

Thank you, we are totally smitten with him! Yes training is key we hear with these, he is doing very well so far and we will certainly take your advice regarding the ramp.

I’m so pleased to be able to participate in this thread finally, after all of these years. Next Saturday we’re trialing the adoption of a lovely 2 year old greyhound. Weirdly feel quite nervous about it but also excited. Have done lots of research and it feels like a greyhound will be a decent choice for us.

    Keep everything crossed for us!

Well, we’ve been fostering this bundle of trouble for over a week now and I must say he has charmed me with his gentle nature and incredible speed! My only regret is we didn’t do it sooner. We’ll hopefully officially adopt him in the coming week or so

    That's great. He looks handsome.

Greyhounds are such lovely dogs and like to loll around indoors but outside all bets are off!

I would be careful when out with him as sight hounds will chase down small mammals, cats, dogs etc and you can't catch them.

    Ask me how I know.
    Cheers,
    Neil.

Oh yes - he’s on a lead at all times out of the house and that will never change. However in the garden he can stretch his legs!

What a handsome lad! Love greyhounds - we always intended to get greys, but 'Withnailed' it a bit and got lurchers by accident, but nothing more chilled than a grey. They're quite the opposite of people's assumptions, lazy and easy-going once they've got the day's 'zoomie' out of the way, if nervy and thick quite often too!

Haha yes I don’t think he’s probably the sharpest tool in the box but we’ll forgive him that - he’s a smashing boy and great fun to get to know.

And well-done taking-on a black dog: they struggle the most to get re-homed because people think choosing a dog is like choosing a sofa... Our first dog was black and she was an absolute gem; still miss her.

Strange isn't it, same with cats, our cat is a rescue cat that is black...after undergoing the Spanish inquisition that is required to adopt a cat they asked us if we would consider her, when we we met her she was so adorable and great looking too it was a no brainer...here we are 14 years later she is still going strong.

Great stuff! I deplore the way people choose pets on aesthetics - all else aside, the chance of properly bonding is less if you don't form a good relationship with the animal. All of our dogs and cats have kind of chosen us - i.e. we go to the rehomers and see which ones respond well: not necessarily the over-effusive ones, more the calm-but-friendly ones. Hard to describe now I'm trying to, but I often wish I'd taken a similar approach to past human relationships!

Our dog certainly manipulated me into choosing her :)
She was the runt of the litter, a scrappy little thing, but she gave me the eyes, and when I picked her up (mistake!) she nuzzled into my chest and that was that :D

This little fella is coming home on Saturday. He's currently named Batman, as named by one of the kids of the mum's owner. I like the name, but the other half doesn't, name recommendations welcome...
