    Meet Maise

Rescued from SpanielAide she is a nearly 4 y.o. Cocker - mad as a box of frogs and will fit in just fine with the other two..

We just taken this boy as a foster which I already feel will go to adoption.

4 year old golden doodle weighing in at 40kg, he is the size of a horse. Needing a lot of reassurance today but it I all new and he is a lovely boy.

Wonderful! It looks as if he’s landed in a soft bed.

How can a face like that end up in a rescue situation? I can’t get that.

    Not necessarily all horror stories.
    Or “don’t want it anymore”

    Divorce ?
    Owner passing away ?

They do say Spaniels settle down about 10 or 11

    Show us your dogs

First up is a previously uploaded pic of our old lad “Harley” taken up Rivington in Oct 2017.
Sadly lost the big lad August last year.

Today we returned to the same spot with our current rescue, NaLa. She is an XL Bull, adopted from the RSPCA.
Only history they gave us is she was removed from the previous owner for her own welfare weighing 23kg Sept 2022. Ears had been cropped and she was just skin & bone.
With a little time, love and a decent diet, she’s now up at 43kg.
We feel lucky to have her and will enjoy every day.

The long and short of it was that he needed to have that operation to remove 15 masses inside him that on the initial 2-3 scans presented as cancerous tumours. Thankfully (thus far) the news is much better as the subsequent CT scans revealed he had a very, very rare condition called Splenosis. He had his spleen removed in an emergency operation in October 2020 due to a heamatoma and since then some fragments of the damaged spleen had grown inside him to the point 3 weeks ago today I knew he was really in some discomfort and I had to rush him to my local vet. From there we were referred to "Aura" in Guildford (ex Fitzpatricks of "Super Vet" fame) who took fantastic care of him in the time he spent there over 3 visits and the lead vet who performed the operation (picture below after the operation last Wednesday) did a remarkable job to remove all of the 15 growths that weighed just over 1kg in weight. He even removed a small one near Buddy's heart even though a colleague had said before that one would not be possible to remove given it's location.......but he did get it/all of them out and we're just waiting for the final "All clear" from pathology.

Sorry to waffle on but my relief that he is (hopefully) going to be ok and is back home is something I am thanksful for every day.

I'd like to make special mention to thank "John Wall" of this fine forum. John didn't know me at all before all of this but as a fellow owner of a lovely Fox Red Labrador (well, a few actually...) he reached out to send me a number of incredibly kind and thoughtful PM's over the past 3 weeks.

Thank you John, you are a gentleman!

(P.S. If you have pet insurance please make sure it's bloody good as mine wasn't and it's my own fault.....!!)

Unfortunately the pathology all clear we thought we had/was highly likely has not turned out that way.

The surgeon removed 15 masses from Buddy and, of all the luck, 14 of those were clear but one was a stage 1 HSA cancer I’m afraid.

    14/15……FFS 

So now we’re into consultation with both my own vet and the veterinary hospital that operated on Buddy for the chemotherapy options available to us.

It’s just so painful and incredibly worrying but we have to find a way to hope/pray some good comes of this process.

Thanks again for the kind words and, again, give your fur baby a big hug for us.

Here’s our absolute dope of a dog 8 months on; he’s grown a lot! Off to get his hair trimmed again tomorrow so that’ll smarten him up. He’s been a lot of fun and a great addition to the family.

Lucky our house wasn’t renovated before he came though, I think we can finally start it without worrying about him destroying it all!

Really sorry to learn about both your losses.

Rudyard Kipling said it best (until someone decides to rewrite his stuff)

There is sorrow enough in the natural way
    From men and women to fill our day;
And when we are certain of sorrow in store,
Why do we always arrange for more?
Brothers and Sisters, I bid you beware
Of giving your heart to a dog to tear.

Buy a pup and your money will buy
    Love unflinching that cannot lie—
    Perfect passion and worship fed
By a kick in the ribs or a pat on the head.
    Nevertheless it is hardly fair
To risk your heart for a dog to tear.

When the fourteen years which Nature permits
Are closing in asthma, or tumour, or fits,
And the vet’s unspoken prescription runs
To lethal chambers or loaded guns,
Then you will find—it’s your own affair—
But… you’ve given your heart to a dog to tear.

When the body that lived at your single will,
With its whimper of welcome, is stilled (how still!).
When the spirit that answered your every mood
    Is gone—wherever it goes—for good,
You will discover how much you care,
And will give your heart to a dog to tear.

We’ve sorrow enough in the natural way,
When it comes to burying Christian clay.
Our loves are not given, but only lent,
At compound interest of cent per cent.
Though it is not always the case, I believe,
That the longer we’ve kept ’em, the more do we grieve:
For, when debts are payable, right or wrong,
A short-time loan is as bad as a long—
So why in—Heaven (before we are there)
Should we give our hearts to a dog to tear?
'Against stupidity, the gods themselves struggle in vain' - Schiller.

A man sees a sign outside a house - 'Talking Dog For Sale.'
He rings the bell, the owner appears and tells him the dog can be viewed in the back garden.
The man sees a very nice looking Labrador Retriever sitting there.
"Do you really talk?" he asks the dog.
    "Yes", the Labrador replies.
After recovering from the shock of hearing the dog talk, the man asks,
    "So, tell me your story"
The Labrador looks up and says, "Well, I discovered that I could talk when I was pretty young. I wanted to help the government, so I joined MI6" .
"In no time at all they had me jetting from country to country, sitting in rooms with spies and world leaders, because no one imagined that a dog would be eavesdropping."
"I was one of their most valuable spies for eight years."
"But the jetting around really tired me out, and I knew I wasn't getting any younger so I decided to settle down. I signed up for a job at Heathrow to do some undercover security work, wandering near suspicious characters and listening in. I uncovered some incredible dealings and was awarded several medals.
I got married, had a few puppies, and now I've just retired."
The man is amazed. He goes back into the house and asks the owner how much he wants for the dog.
    "Ten quid", the owner says.
"£10!!? But this dog is absolutely amazing! Why on earth are you selling him so cheaply?"

    "Because he's a liar.
He's never been out of the garden"

Redland Green in Bristol was a bit of a swamp today, and Tess ran into her friend Bonnie, an 8 month old Dalmatian/Ridgeback cross.

They had quite a fun time chasing each other

00 mins or so, we have a pressure sprayer/washer that I fill with warm water and do it over a drain in the garden. She quite likes it with the warm water, and it saves us having to traipse a filthy dog into a shower room in the basement
