    Thoughts on this combo.......

Off on holiday next week and as I am in the states I wanted to take a GMT with me.

The EXP II is the only GMT I own and I was a little bit worried about scratching the bracelet in the pool, waterparks, roller coasters etc so I thought I would try it with a GGB.

I am a big fan of Carls straps so stuck a 22mm canvas on the EXP II to try it out.

    What do you reckon?

Personally I think it looks excellent. Nice way to dress it down. Have a great holiday!

    Not for Rolex IMHO...

I'm not 100% sold, although I do think another GGB may look better.
It's just a matter of time...

    A definite no from me

Whatever floats your boat. It's not like you'll wear it like that when you get home (or will you?!).

Whilst you are on holiday, does it really matter what time it is either where you are or at home? Leave the Rolex at home, and get a wrist tan.

I think it looks great and probably is a lot more comfortable than is a bracelet in summer conditions, but I agree that leaving it at home and relaxing would be a great idea!

    Not a good match, IMO.

NATO would probably look better - maybe even an orange one if you're feeling adventurous!

    Looks pretty good.

No, strap clashes and is too distracting from a great looking watch :)

EXPII now back on bracelet but I have tried the strap on a SMP bond and it seems to match the creamy plots nicely.

Good to see a 22mm strap will fit on a 20mm lug watch

Definitely think a darker strap would look much better, black, navy or even olive green.

Got to say it looks OK, although I think black with orange stitching would work best IMHO!

I don't think you only can were it with bracelet. Try something darker and something that doesn't look so plastic. Lot of Nato and Zulu would be great. On a holiday, better than bracelet.

    Not a fan.

If you want to dress it down, try an orange Isofrane.

And a Nato doesn't, why in gods name anyone puts a Rolex on a Nato except because of that film is beyond me.

Already tried and wasn't keen on the gap between the rubber and lugs plus, the isofrane is either too tight or too loose on my wrist.

Shame. The Isofrane is the ideal beach/pool strap, and so comfy.

If you still have one kicking around then don't rule it out. When you're abroad and it is hotter then perhaps you'll be up on the next notch on the strap anyway!

    N looks like Oxfam reject

Wear it on the bracelet, if the strap gets bashed guess what state the watch head will be in!

I don't get all the angst. It looks great.

That said, I won't change the way I wear a watch for the activity I'm doing, I swap the watch, so G Shock for the pool, water park etc. and for all other things there's Rolex...

That was my initial thought. If I was an explorer there is no way I would wear it on the bracelet.

With regards to the colour matching; in my opinion it works great.

Sports & Activity watches look great with nylon straps; after all they are not "dress" watches; they are meant to enjoy a rougher life, and need a strap to match/withstand :)
Yes, steel straps are probably tougher (I say probably, because after all they are still held to the watch by two spring bars), but an abused/scratched steel bracelet looks way worse in my opinion than any nylon-type strap..

As for traveling with a watch on a nylon strap; it has many advantages including one of which is that it doesn't look so expensive and this reduces risk with it attracting unwanted attention..

Well this photo just made me put it back on the Explorer, plus the fact it doesnt draw attention to the watch so mugging is less likely

OK how about this then? Nice Bremont strap recently bought from Nige (CH47Driver)

  37. #37
That looks better than the first effort

Still prefer the Bracelet, don't worry about a few scratches unless its a must they bury you with a mint watch in your coffin

I like it best on the bracelet. I don't really know why (as it doesn't go for all Rolexes), but those straps does make it look kind of cheap.

The face on that watch is stunning.

Be interested to see wrist shots of both those straps. The pics are great but hard to see what it's really going to wear like.

What film? What have I missed....?

I don't think it looks bad at all - if anything the bremont strap has the edge with the black orange combo. Wear with the comfort that you are not going to damage your bracelet whilst galavanting around the US!

Bracelets for Rolex. End of. Even the leather on the Daytona looks cheap - sorry Tony.

I actually like the fact the nylon does disguise the fact it's a Rolex. Mostly people spot the oyster and identify Rolex by it (I know I do), when it's on the nylon I feel it's not so flash and more stealthy. If that makes it look cheap then that's good as I am the one who knows its not and am not flashing it around.

Not for me, I prefer the classic look of the bracelet. What about trying a mesh? Keeps the more traditional looks and saves your OE bracelet. Just a thought ;)

Belongs on the Oyster bracelet. If you get a scratch its easy enough to refinish, its just stainless steel...

    Thoughts on this combo.......

Love the watch, but that strap simply doesn't work with it.
Second strap surprisingly doesn't look as bad, mixing black with white
I am sure that some combination would work, but personally I would wear it on the bracelet. If you don't want it to look like a Rolex, perhaps wear a Casio on your travels instead?
