    Patio Lighting Experience Required

    Hi,

This is a bit off topic but I am getting a stone patio laid.

I need to get some lights for effect and looking for members experience in relation to outdoor lights.

I need to spec marine grade lights as I live near the sea.

What do I need to look for? I was looking at 1w led lights in the patio every 1m to 1.5m .

I am also looking at some up/down lights for the walls.

    Any wise words out there?

    Thanks

Few years back we bought some LED lights for the patio. Had them sunken into the ground so they are level with the stone. They're water-proof as they come in a sort of shroud/hood. Pretty simple to change the bulbs if required - we haven't had to as yet. Can select standard white bulbs or colour changing ones and give off enough light to create a nice mood.

Can't remember how much they were now.

Quite simple to get wired in too.

Swear by Collingwood lighting, most of the lights are marine grade steel. Only go for sealed led units for walkover lights, as GU10 can be a pain in moisture gets in :(. It's not worth taking short cuts with outdoor lighting, as a bad system will give you years of grief.

    Thanks for the responses.

I am looking at Collingwood light but need to decide between 1w and 3w led.

I cannot visualise how bright these would be.

    Thanks
    Gavin

LEDs in patio lighting can be very annoying on the eye - too intense imho. I'd certainly be mindful of this if you are going to consider the 3w.

Gavin, the other thing to consider is what you are trying to achieve - usually the pin lights are used to show the edge or to create a 'style' but they are pretty useless for actual lighting.

I have stone patio and used small bollard down lighters - I started wanting LED but ended up with low energy because all the LED fixtures I could find were junk/and or badly styled.

I ended up with something similar to this:

They give off good light but don't annoy you when you are sitting on the patio. I have them on a dusk till dawn censor and they cost me pence to run.

Start with what you want to achieve, then consider the options imho.
