    Opinions Please - Seiko 5 SNZH53 or SNZH55?

    Good morning all!

Recently I've looking at Seiko divers a lot. Of course, there's the classic SKX007, but I'm drawn to the more vintage-looking SNZH5x models. I really like the bezel design and the domed crystal.

On my interweb travels, I've seen quite a few of the fifty-fathoms mods, but I prefer the original Seiko design.

From photos I've seen, I'm finding it hard to decide whether I like the blue (SNZH53) or the black (SNZH55) dialled version better. I did a search here, which came up with quite a few threads (modded and originals), but I couldn't find a direct comparison.

So what are your opinions? What's the nicer, blue- or black-dialled? Does anyone have both? How do they compare side-by-side in the metal?

    Here they both are:

Ta in advance for your opinons!
    Cheers

it's gotta be blue for me (I've got an itch I really need to scratch about a blue face & bezel watch!)

I like the white-on-black date wheel of the 55 better. Other than that it's a toss up really. It's the same watch, just down to a personal preference for one color or the other.

I only had the blue one. I think at the time, I had several black face watches so choosing the blue one seemed sensible. Nice looking watch and well made. I found it a little heavy and was going to try it on a strap but I gave it a relative before I had the chance.

I'd go for the blue. SNZH57 is very nice too.

I was in the same situation over the sumo. I went for black p, but now wish I had gone for blue, so I vote blue.

I had a blue one, great watch.

Please dont mod it if you get one!

That pic doesn't do the blue one justice. It's lovely.

Black dial for me. I'd be interested to see how the oyster-style bracelet feels compared to the jubilee-style bracelet of the SKX series.

I like em both.............Though I prefer the blue dial!

I think both are good-looking and good-value watches.
But its your choice - theyre spec-wise the same, so its down to looks alone - nobody can decide for you what your favourite colour is!

Thats a choice you must make yourself as it is purely subjective. Perhaps if you want to switch straps one might look better than the other.

Another vote for the blue one here. There were a few for sale recently and I was so tempted.

Black is the more conservative choice, so I say go for blue!

    I prefer the black

... just need to chisel the 5 off the dial now.

Agree about the '5'. It's not my favorite logo that's for sure. This watch would look so much nicer without the '5' Sports logo.

Well, a spread of preferences for blue and black with a slight majority for blue I think. The black and gold version also seems attractive, but I'm really never sure with gold.

Of course, it's subjective. I think the black date wheel does it for me - which means I'm tending towards the black dialled version.

Am I right that the blue dial has a sunburst pattern whereas the black one is plain?

    Black.

Mine was blue but heavily modded before I bought it. I've got all the blue bits should I ever want to un-mod it but it's unlikely.

I'd go for blue, they do look like great watches and I nearly got one the other day and I know it's silly but the lack of solid end links put me off.

I thought about buying one and putting it on a nato because they're such nice looking watches but I prefer bracelets so I went for a Seiko SNZF45K1 neo monster instead.

Do you have any other watches, if you currently have a black faced one go for the blue.
Marginally prefer the black faced one myself.

I don't think the '5' logo is too bad at all. Certainly not from an aesthetic perspective.
And lets not let any snobbery creep in - Seiko 5s are great little workhorses that IMO deserve as much or more respect than significantly pricier offerings.

Well so much for that - I ordered the blue one today!

    No chance of that!

I have a few. The black-dialled ones outnumber the blue ones, so I chose blue in the end.

So now the next question: who can suggest a good strap to go with the blue dial?
