    Camera Practice....Ongoing!

Was having a go at a few shots last night of some of the collection, thought I'd post the results.
None of them are great, but it's all practice! :-)

Good tip! I'll try that, thanks.

Very good pictures of some very nice watches - particularly like the grand seiko.

I really need to learn how to use a camera properly.

I think the pics look great. Just keep practicing if you're not happy. I don't mind looking at a few more pictures of some nice watches.

    Nice shooting, great photos.

I especially like the lume shots of your 6309 but have one question.........why does it appear to be running backwards? From the trail it was a 25 second exposure but it's going the wrong way!
    Or am I missing something?

I'm an idiot! 15 minutes after posting I realised what it is. You are using 1st curtain sync on the long exposures. If you change to 2nd curtain then the flash will fire at the end of the exposure and capture the second hand 'infront' of the lume trail.

I'll have to remember that for when I try some lume shots. Cheers!

Morning all, thanks again for the comments, actually on these shots I didn't use a flash at all.
You could do it the way you suggested with a flash. My 'method' is a bit more simple.
It basically involved me turning of the lamp just after the shutter opened.
    lol!
Think they came out ok though.

I've used another method in the past for lume shots, of taking the photos in the dark and just bouncing light off the ceiling with a torch, or directly on the watch with a torch in tiny bursts. You can get some decent pics, but it's quite hard to get it right.

What is the reflective surface you are using using? I have been looking for something like that (acrylic) to get the reflections when taking pics of my collection.

It's exactly that, just a piece of black acrylic.

    Thank you!
Yep, I just purchased a light tent (small one - 40cm) and 2 5400k lamps from the bay recently and all these shots were taken indoors at night with the tent and lamps.

With regards to the 6309, here's a couple of links to threads I posted about it a while back:
