Not an owner, but I have seriously looked at the new A3 and Golf. I prefer the A3. It's got a nice level of fit and finish.

I've got a 10 plate A3 and had a drive of the new model 2 weeks ago. I must admit I didn't think it was a big leap over my 'old' one.

Cabin was extremely nice with good quality plastics.

I have just got the brand new shape it's a 2.0 diesel s-line I had a Golf GTD before the Audi and for me this Audi is a superb car much superior to my Golf in every way, and that Golf was a great car it's just that the Audi is so well put together the interior is such quality and everything the car does it does it in a classy way, I love my new car :)

Any questions feel free to ask

Have one on order since Feb. due to be with me in 2 or 3 weeks.

tfsi engine is responsive even in smaller engine sizes.

Lots of bleeding edge tech ( auto lane centering, auto parking, adaptive cruise keeps safe distance from car in front)

They're having difficulty keeping up with demand, and discounts are harder to get as a result.

Bumping a old thread, I had trouble getting a test drive, local dealer didnt seem interested, so went to one a few miles away and loved the car, but not much in the way of a deal, popped into bmw to look at a 1 series and put a deposit down on a ex demo 5 series.... totally different type of car but so comfortable

On Saturday SWMBO and I went to my local Audi dealership (where I got my A4Q from) to get a A1 for her, (Youngest is 17 and she is learning to drive so that was a big consideration in the choice) the guy who approached us radiated 'pompous twat' of some magnitude.

He brayed briefly and earned himself a frown, I told him not to trouble himself and went 50 yards down the road to Honda and got her a nice 1.4 Jazz from a pleasant guy who did NOT radiate 'TWAT'!

Have to say, when I had an Audi I found the dealership pretty poor. BMW on the wife's car aren't much better either.

Pompous twat is the universal job suitability criterion for Audi sales people, judging by a few examples experienced lately. Perhaps it mirrors their target market segment?...

Had been thinking about a nearly new A4, but the alternative of a plain 3 series Beemer avoids having to visit Audi dealerships again. More car for the money too.

Recently bought a Q3, and was given an A3 as a courtesy car whilst awaiting delivery of the Q3.
I have never been a fan of the looks of the A3, but after living with it for a week, I was very impressed.
The A3 can't do what I need the Q3 to do for me, but other than that I would seriously consider an A3 and would recommend it to friends.
Even its appearance grew on me!

I have never understood why people would not buy a car based on how much of a twat the salesman was. Either try and see through the BS or go to another dealer.

That said, I recently visited a VW dealer and the salesman was an utter arse so I walked but I wasn't that interested in the car anyway.

Unfortunately I have got same experiences. Tried to buy second hand S4 from dealership in Edinburgh, had 30k in cash ready to hand over but guy I talked to didn't take me seriously and wasn't really very proactive in helping me find one. I understand its not a brand new car and I wasnt taking finance but still its a lot of money and surely some commission for them to earn...

Ended up buying from another dealer across the country who was more than happy to deal with me... Go figure...

Seems it is not just me then! I was also a cash buyer and the guy who approached me acted like he was doing me (us) a right favour deigning to talk to us.

I will speak plainly. Before I retired, my last 12 years work was as UK Sales and Marketing Manager for a specialist Engineering company, a subsidiary of a UK PLC, and if this twat had worked for me and acted like that, he would have been gone that very day.

*uck him, I can buy a car for cash anywhere and so I did and it is being delivered to my house at 13.00 hours today. Happy days!

    I thank you.

Does seem a strange tactic that a lot of salesman employ. I enquired about two M3's that were listed on their site, the salesman phoned me and as I was going to the local BMW dealer to have some work done on my partner's car it was agreed I would take one/or both out for a run (one manual, one DCT) and a closer look. So having made an appointment, I turned up to be greeted by another salesman who wanted to go through my desired options/budget etc etc ending with the fact both cars were actually stored at another facility (45 miles away) and would have to be brought down another day if I wanted a test drive, erm?! Suffice to say when he rung back a week later to see if I was still looking I had the pleasure telling him I had bought a 911. It's a pain because they're only 0.5 mile away otherwise I would take Charlotte's car to another dealership.

When I was looking to change my car earlier this year I looked at the A3 2.0TDI as a contender. It is a nice car but I preferred the Golf and bought this instead. Lots of kit, lots of fun and just loosening up nicely. It's now done 2000 miles and I'm getting c. 60 mpg which is likely to improve as it gets fully run in.

It is indeed odd. I remember buying my first car in 1983 (a J-reg beetle) which the local VW dealer had taken in px for something else. The dealer couldnt have been more helpful or, more importantly, pleasant about the whole thing despite my paying the same as he'd allowed on the px.

I went to look at a car, locally, last week and it was as much as they could do to look up from their texting - and when they found out I wanted to pay cash, I went to the bottom of the heap as they plainly do well out of the finance deals.

    Anyhoo.

I have discovered http://www.carshop.co.uk who have taken over where Autoquake.com left off. All the cars are ex contract hire and the prices click downwards until they reach auction price at which point, thats where they go. 7 day money back guarantee (like AQ did). I suspect I'll be buying from them over the next few months; I bought my last car from AQ and the whole process was brilliant, unfortunately AQs margins were a bit too thin and they went under.

I dont like been ignored in the dealers, I rang a couple of times to arrange test drives at audi and no calls back and no interest to speak to me inside the dealers, as this was close to end of quarter I can only guess they had hit their targets.

However the guys at bmw were superb, they had previously sent me a very cringe worthy video tour of the 5 series I purchased, but when I got there offered the test drive and asked what they needed to do to get me in the car....when I gave them the figures I wanted they went and crunched the numbers and agreed, I guess I should of pushed for more, but I had researched the costs and trade in values and imo got a excellent deal

Well that's exactly the point, is it not? Most people, mercifully, aren't card carrying Audi fanboys, and treat thrusting Teutonic sedans as essentially fungible products. so they'll likely do exactly as you did!
...but what do I know; I don't even like watches!

Popped a deposit on this today for a September 1st delivery....really should learn to leave my credit card at home when I go out without a responsible adult!
I then remembered this thread. Thankfully looks like it's generally a thumbs up.

Absolute weapon! But also very civilized if you toddle, pretty much the do-it-all car I reckon.

Saw Harris's vid of the chipped S4 and all very impressive for near £20k less, but it just ain't an RS4 is it!

I picked up an A3 last week from the local Audi dealership and so far pretty much delighted with it. I've always had a VW before but as others have highlighted above, the local VW dealership were so far up their own ass I decided to look elsewhere.

The salesman at the local Audi dealership on the other hand at least treated me as a human, even when I wasn't paying by finance or taking out one of their ridiculously overpriced extra cover plans for the paintwork, alloys or 'special' wax coating. The A3, although short on a few extras I expected they should have in comparison to say a Golf, they are no doubt a superior built car in fit and finish.

I have been looking to buy an approx 2 year old-ish MK6 petrol Golf GTI and I cant believe the apathy from the sales staff at the VW dealers I have contacted/visited.
I can only conclude they feel they are doing me a favour by selling me a car.
I cant be arsed to go into all the detail-but it is putting me off bothering at all-I think I will just keep my current car for a while longer after all. To$$ers.

Looked at both the A3 and the Golf 7. Ended up buying the Golf, good dealership and great price too.

I had exactly the same experience in Middlesbrough VW, I went to buy a golf GTI and the staff just ignored me so I drove to the Audi dealer and bought an S3. I got the impression they thought they were to good to talk to me, not good for business as they lost 25 grand that day :)
