Lovely, I still have mine I bought in 2000.

Any reason these are called 'Polar' at all? That's a new one for me...

Because of the white dial, Andy. I was really lucky with this one - lovely fat lugs and although it must have had a light polish at some stage it looks like the case has just left the factory.

Stunning Tony. For years I just couldn't see the attraction of these but then the penny dropped.

    Enjoy.

Gorgeous watch and photo! Not particularly a biggest fan of Rolex but that is something special.

Yeah they are alright aren't they?

Always liked the white dials (polar is a new one on me) as they look so different from all the other Rolex sportsters.

    My A series "Swiss"

    Cheers,
    Neil.

I acquired one in a trade last year, and I have to say that it quickly became a favourite. There were a few marks on the bezel, which were sorted out by Rocco at Watchworks and his now famous lapping machine. Otherwise it was pristine.

It's very versatile, and as has been said, a bit different to other Rolex sports models.

Picture taken before the bezel refurb.

    Regards

    Ian

Am I the only one who thinks this watch was made for a NATO? Surely not...

The last one I had went straight on nylon too (excuse the blindingly bright photo )

I can't believe that's one of your photos.

And yes, they do look good on a Nato. I wear mine on either black or olive green. I haven't taken any photos of it on either of them, though.
    Sorry.

I've been thinking baout one of these on and off but could never quite get my head around the looks until these pictures on a NATO.

    Absolutely stunning.

I always assumed that it was called Polar because…..

...of its use in Polar expeditions.

See below, or do a search for 'Rolex, Erling Kagge'

    Best wishes,
    Martyn.

Thanks Mark. It's one watch that's completely transformed when you take the bracelet off. In fact, my bracelet will never leave the box.

One of the nicest Rolex ever! And his cousin says Hi!

I had to buy another one of these recently….

These are the only modern sapphire Rolex that I like.

I've always kept one in the safe as a holiday/summer watch, on account of its robust 'usability' not to mention its good looks and the fact that it can be replaced. Anyway, mine was 'pinched' by my father a year or so ago, and having tried and failed to find a suitable alternative I just went out and found another one for my own use!

    Best wishes,
    Martyn.

    It's a beauty indeed.

Rumours have it they are currently working on a bi-polar.........

    Daddel.
Got a new watch, divers watch it is, had to drown the bastard to get it!

Lovely, thanks for showing Tony. There are few watches that get my pulse racing but the Explorer 2 is one of them. Such a shame that it wears too small on my gorilla wrists otherwise I would definitely picked one up before the prices became mental.

They are lovely, aren't they? I've been wearing mine since it arrived, but I've been wrestling all day with the decision of what watch to wear for a TURF London dinner tonight. In the end my 1665 was victorious but even having made the choice I'm still in doubt.

    Here's another gratuitous shot, anyway...

Also had one of these and one of the most comfortable watches i have worn.I bought one that the cyclops had been removed and found the bracelet to be fine but not sure about the Nato strap.

Currently considering buying another before the prices go silly but every time i think about it i start to fall in love with the 42mm newer model.

Also i feel i must give a sea dweller a try before i can no longer afford one.

Prices seem to be going up quickly for the last year on this one.

I believe it does, Merlin. Brilliant watch, and so different to the black dial that it could almost be a another reference altogether.

You getting closer, maybe you have to buy one more lamp or two.
