I have a few of those 42mm ones as well - very fond of them and a fun thing to collect at still sensible prices. GLWTS

    Supercompressors

LBR supercompressors, though sadly don't own one. Wish we'd see some more modern incarnations of them though. There's the LLD and a few others but I see a lot more untapped potential. How about a supercompressor style Speedbird with internal bezel? Would be sweet :-)

Fine thread is this :) With some wonderful examples!
For what I know, my Enicar is a supercompressor too. The definition of supercompressor comes from the WR closing of the case back and is not related to the twin crowns as far as I know. The back of a compressor case fits like a bayonet. There are two markings, a I and a 0, instead of a screw down back case. Inside the case is a spring who keeps the back on it's place. The more pressure, the better it locks. See also this drawing:

    Piquerez by Malus65, on Flickr

    They were made by EPSA.

I've like them and have/had a few. Still have these...:

Small (always needs a few days getting used to) but wears well: Hamilton Cape Horn:

I think this is one of the rarer twin crown Super Compressors: Favre Leuba Deep Blue with twin screw down crowns

Love the 'Pontiac' Dave - I'd be interested if you were ever thinking of moving that on...

But the Favre Leuba is the watch if the thread for me... Absolutely adore those hands!

    Cheers,

I've long had a thing for super compressors, but I have managed to curb my enthusiasm for a while:

Thanks Rob, it is probably my favourite watch.

It's an 812AD and was IWC’s first diving wristwatch, this one originally being sold in 1967.
The earlier ones didn't have the applied IWC on the dial above "International Watch Co." while later models were redesignated as Reference 1812 (in 1974).
You can find them, with a variety of dial/bezel variations, including black on black, black on white, white (silver) on black and white (silver) on light blue, although none are "common".

As can be seen, the super compressor cases, made by E. Piquerez SA, were used by many watch manufacturers of the period.

Acquired this watch this weekend (in a trade lot) and really didn't know what it was. Somebody just tipped me that this type of watch is called super compressor. Movement is an AS 1700. So here it is (poor pics sorry):

That Amvox is the watch I would like to buy for my 40th, ever since watching a short video on Prodigal Guide demonstrating the mechanical alarm. Fantastic.

I have owned a non date LLD, sold it as I didn't like the OEM strap. Idiot.

I was a big fan of compressors. Less so these days. Warms my heart to get them out now and again. (The Longines are two different references/movements.)

Just this one for me. Huge lump, 22mm lugs sans Homemade 'bezel(!) Needs an original capilliary? tube bezel, but there's more chance of finding a Tory in Scotland.

I'm totally in love with this watch reissue. Planning on it being my first 'big' purchase any day soon. Does it actually count as a supercompressor though, or is it just supercompressor-style? I'm sure the original model was, but not knowing much about compressors I figured the technology has moved on since the 1960s and some other techniques would've taken its place.

It's a conventional construction in the style of the original watch, which used (or licensed the design of) the EPSA supercompressor case. I don't think there are any supercompressors still in production (something Russian, maybe?).
...but what do I know; I don't even like watches!

Unfortunately my excitement has been rather short lived. The hour setting crown at four o' clock has failed, literally came off whilst trying to set the date. Hope it's a simple cheap work - may need to source a new compressor crown too.

Lovely. Thinking of picking up a Longines LLD at the moment... shame you can't get it without date anymore.

Recently picked up the 36mm Hamilton super compressor. Wonderful little watch that wears surprisingly large thanks to the two crowns. Note the aquadive next to it is ~55mm lug to lug length wise - to think they are only a few years apart!
