Sorry but my first thought was this...
But IMHO it's a thing of beauty..........
Daddel.
Got a new watch, divers watch it is, had to drown the bastard to get it!
I'll put it down as a persoanl defect, but I'm a slave to bilateral tripartite symmetry, so I could never wear it. It does look to be well made.
Nice, but would be even better on integrated rubber IMHO
Well made, but thats about it.
Dial too busy for its own good, pushers a bit strange, Seiko can do better than that. Simplicity and balance is the key
A bit fussy for me.
The dial is far too busy and it isn't for me but I can see why others would like it :)
Well, so far there's no discussion, everybody dislikes it!!!
Daddel.

Remove the power reserve meter and date window, swap the ugly pushers and replace the croc strap with something more suitable and you might end up with a half decent looking watch.
No doubt the build quality is good though.
Bleurgh.
Sorry, that's a bit harsh. To me it looks too similar to their sportura offerings, which I am also not keen on. Like this:
There's too little* to separate it from a £200 watch for me.
*Obviously the spring drive movement is lovely etc. It just looks too cheap in this instance.
Dude, you should have kept the MM300.
Sorry
Like it or not is very personal..I LOVE mine...or color could make some difference
much better than its dad
and if I have some extra $, I would have this more than a daytona
another turn to the dial, you have

You are free to call it a butt ugly bastard, I don't want to argue about looks, beauty is in the eye.................etc.
But not even your picture from the front is close, exept for the fact they are both round.
To you a lot of watches must look the same I guess.
Daddel.

Let's see...
Same script
Same colourways (ok, the one I linked to has a stainless bezel but it's also available in PVD / IP)
Same bevel cut markers
Same colour hands
Same style pushers
It still looks like it belongs in the sportura range. Now, some of the other Spring Drive watches posted above look fantastic and I don't doubt that it's a great movement.
If you want to believe that those two look completely different, that's your call.
Edit: In fact I just did a google "Search for visually similar images" on the ananta and it came back with this, so there is similar design cues in much of the range:
In your humble opinion the Ananta is a thing of beauty - in my humble opinion it looks a lot like their cheaper models. They are both opinions.

OK, let's leave it there, I will agree that they are in fact both round.

I think it works better with the silver dial.
Not sure about the 'top hat' pushers.
Am I right in saying it's a chrono with GMT and power reserve?
And also guessing as it's a spring drive it'll be eye-wateringly expensive.
Im obviously weird, cos I really like it.
Hurts my eyes.... Well, not that much, but the dial is just far to busy for me. Guess I'm getting old :)
I have the Non chrono version and it` s by far the best watch I have owned ,very comfortable ,and very different which is why I like it ,I would have this before most of what the Swiss have to offer, mine is very very accurate ,and as I have said before I can watch that second finger for hours,
These have to be seen in the metal to appreciate the quality of the craftmanship of the hand made marvel.
I love the case shape and particularly the caseback....
the face a bit too busy. So not for me, but as in all things to each their own
I simply love Seiko and think the spring drive is a very nice innovation for mechanical watches ( yes, i know, some will argue it's not mechanical but quartz, but no, It's a mechanical movement). You can see from every angle that your watch is a quality piece. The two superposed sub dials on the right are nice, but i have a lot of trouble with the way Seiko (and many others) integrate their power reserve on the dial. So, it's a busy watch with a particular styling that would not appeal to everybody.
I appreciate Seiko engineering and some of their designs, but this one is not for me either.
Hope you do not flip it because of the lack of love it gets so far. Hang in there! If you like it, it's all that matters. Congrats and enjoy!
It's odd but I quite like it.
To each indeed his own.
But as stated before, you have to feel the case, see it in real life, to enjoy the fine craftmanship and form.
I guess a Rollie, Panny or Brietbling is more exciting, and you get a good resale, that's all this hobby is about eh?

Daddel I get the impression that you're disappointed that so much of the feedback has been negative. The bad news is that I'm not going to improve things I'm afraid!
I do think its incredibly 'busy' - in my case it's not helped by the fact that I have a personal dislike for power reserves. I simply don't see the point of them.
I know it's only a minor point and can be changed, but I also think the strap is completely inappropriate for the watch head.
Sorry.
Simon
Have you bought this watch? Is that why you're so personally invested in it?
If you didn't want feedback then you shouldn't have asked! Insulting everyone's tastes and questioning why they collect watches after they have responded to your request for feedback is daft.
The important thing is that you like it. We all like different things after all.
OK, I'll leave the thread for what it is.
I did expect the views on the watch, that's very OK, I like it, paid a lot less than you normally would have to pay for a SD chrono limited edition, so no problem there.
My problem is only that you can't tell from the pics if it looks like a 200,- Seiko or not.
A Sub looks like a 200,- watch from a pic, you can't tell the difference from a good fake or "hommage" only based on pics, you have to feel it.
So, ugly, busy, mushroom pushers, fine with me, but comparisons with a 200,- watch, no.
Daddel.
Got a new watch, divers watch it is, had to drown the bastard to get it!
You can say 'no' all you want, but that's my opinion. There is no right or wrong. If rolex did a 200 quid watch that looked similar to a sub, I would be saying the same. But they don't.
Its the same as your opinion that rolexes are boring - I could just say 'no' to that, but you're entitled to your opinion.
My opinion is that it's one of the nicer Spring Drive chronograph GMT's; I was close to purchasing the SPS011 recently as it had been reduced by a couple of K - but I'm having a Tudor Chrono thing going on :)
To us watch afficionardos we appreciate the quality of the piece but to the layperson its a Seiko.
Quoting from another poster though
"I simply love Seiko and think the spring drive is a very nice innovation for mechanical watches ( yes, i know, some will argue it's not mechanical but quartz, but no, It's a mechanical movement). "
My understanding is that the SD movement uses a quartz crystal, therefore it's quartz. Just because the power is mechanical does not make it a mechanical, it just energy transference, whether that is from battery or some or means. out of interest what would you call a Hamilton Pulsomatic ?

I don't mind the "quartz-ness" of the Spring Drive, but the Spring Drive chronos are a bit busy for my taste, and slightly too big.
My dream set of Spring Drive watches would be a nice clean diver (just 3 hands) and a simple chrono with subdials at 3 and 9.
It's a great watch, beautifully put together, but, it really did nothing for me when I saw this in the metal a few years back - the styling is slightly off as far as my tastes are concerned.
Glad to see you're enjoying it, however.
Best,
Alex
Much as I like Seiko and think that the Grand Seiko range sits at the pinnacle of watchmaking alongside the very best, I do think that Seiko have used the "kitchen sink" design philosophy on their Ananta range. Subtle, it ain't.
Which is a shame, because the standard of workmanship and the technology invested in the Spring Drive system should make them highly desirable. But the watches have ended up giving the impression that they had a suggestions box for design ideas at the Ananta skunkworks, and because they didn't want to offend anybody, they used them all.
They've misjudged their market, in my view. Although I don't know how they're selling in other parts of the world.
So I won't be investing. I'm out.
Regards
Ian
Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
Never liked the looks or spring drive so not for me.
However Rich you obviously like it and it will undoubtedly be a quality piece.
It does make a refreshing change from a lot of very similar looking stuff that usually shows up on here and you obviously feel the same.
Cheers,
Neil.
Totally understandable reactions, it's a daring design to say the least.
The last responses are good debate.
I would never have paid RRP myself, but as for the design, I like it very much, and although it's big, that beautifully crafted case is sitting very comfy on my wrist.
And Sping Drive quartz or not?, that's not an issue for me, the movement is a technical marvel and a joy to look at.
Fits in nicely between my mechanicals and Tuna quartz, it's all watches and movement after all.
Daddel.

Much nicer in silver IMO
I like it, although I prefer in the lighter face/case if I was going to be picky. Originally I didn't care for the pushers, but I've come round to them a lot. I f I came across one at a good rate I'd be very tempted.
As for the Grand Seiko version....I'm feeling ever more strongly drawn to them....
I think this is a great watch, it looks good and from what I know is technically superb. I wouldn't buy it personally as I like clean and simple dials, but I appreciate it all the same. I would love to try one.
Matt
Not sure why people ask for opinions if they get upset hearing the response...
But yes, I'm with the 200 quid watch lookalike crowd. It reminds me of when someone puts a big spoiler and alloys on a Corsa...
Hey I love it and loved mine, I had the silver dial version on bracelet. Yes its certainly not everyones cup of tea, but if you like it sod everyone elses opinion.
People say busy dial. I say full of gorgeous details
Pushers weird. Once youve used them the size and shape make sense
Dont like the design. Fine but i do. I think its modern/futuristic even.
MIne was the the best damn watch I ever had. Pained me to sell it as I suspect ill never get my hands on another but I had to have it at the time. Plus I had my beady out for something rather special
