That's gorgeous. My only foray into Rolex was a 1977 Rolex Air King but I've always fancied a sub.
Congratulations Stewart. You're a good guy...and every good guy deserves a Rolex.:icon_
It's beautiful and you couldn't have picked a better one for someone not really into Rolex.
Those photos are excellent. Can't believe you got those with a point n shoot. Must be a hell of a point n shoot!
you got yourself a stunning watch and those are some of the best photos of a sub I've ever seen.
Makes me want to put my 14060 on a NATO for a bit.
Great watch, looks great on the leather strap as well!
That is a classic watch - simply stunning. You are very lucky!

Very nice Stewart, I once had the same version, white gold surrounds and plexi. It is the domed plexi crystal that makes all the difference IMHO.
It adds more character and 'warmth', (if you don't mind those kinds of statements attached to watches) that the more sterile sapphire lacks on a Sub.
Strangely I also found that the 5513 wears a nato better than a sapphire watch, (in my case a Seadweller admittedly)...

It looks delightful Stewart congratulations, is the start of a non Heuer Collection....? I'm waiting for when the cull begins.:D)
Veeeery nice. I too am rather fond of aged tritium on a gloss dial. But I would say that, mine says hi.

Aged tritium on gloss is rather magical too mind
“Don’t look back, you’re not heading that way.”
Very jealous.
Fantastic pictures too.
Have to say its a lovely example of the most wanted Rolex.
Congratulations on acquiring such a classic watch - the 5513 has always been one of my favourites too.
I think it looks best either on the Oyster or the leather strap (actually I love it on the strap that you made)
Pure watch porn these pictures..... And I have to say, I never liked Rolex until I bought a Seadweller... It's just quality and timeless design.
Having been anti-Submariner, I have completely come round to getting a 1980s 5513 too - likely to be my next acquisition. The domed plexi and the creamy patina are so much nicer than the horrors Rolex now sells
Thanks Scarto...
Just checked.. my camera is a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX07.. there's a review here from 2006 - http://www.photographyblog.com/revie...x_dmc_fx07.php
It takes run-of-the-mill 'holiday' shots, but the macro seems very good. I can't really compare it to anything else, as it's the only digital camera I've ever owned (apart from a Fuji 7-8 yrs ago) - I've had it 6 years-ish. I know it has a 28mm lens - if that means anything. It does take quite contrasty pics.. and because I used my laptop screen as a light, the pics are even more contrasty, so you get that 'studio effect' light/dark look. I do have to fiddle in photoshop to minimise the light bouncing off the crystal, so it is a bit of a cheat - but I'm no pro photographer, so I need to cheat!! :0)
Oh, and the movement - for those interested.. it definitely hacks.
Great watch and it's reminded me just how good a vintage sub looks on a plain NATO
Looks great. Very nice photo. Wear in good health.
ish
That 5513 must surely be one of the neatest, classiest Rolex ever
Damnit, I am beginning to like these now after my 16622 I purchased recently.... oh dear !
Well, I have surprised myself, and I'm still lovin' the 5513.. Just wanted to add that the gloss dial really is a peach, and as the 'cheaper' variant to the earlier matt dials, it shouldn't be overlooked.. you get some wonderful effects in different lighting conditions, especially with that domed crystal distorting the view. I just took this pic 10 mins ago-ish, on my wrist.. it's reflecting the light off the living room lamp.. not a good shot, but gives you the idea of the lovely hues it gets, especially in the evenings.. I was trying to get my camera to focus on the hour hand, but it seems to have auto-focused on the refection of the secs & min hand.. still, it gives a good idea..
I couldn't resist taking another proper shot, being as I had the laptop in front of me.. it's so photogenic!
Very nice! I didn't know that the gloss dial variant was cheaper though... I thought it was the opposite.
Excellent photos and watch sir!
What bracelet is that? Very cool.
very nice. Can i ask what the going rate is for one of these?
I'm no Rolex expert.. and they say the answer to that is "how long is a piece of string".. but I'd guess as a rough guide, from a knacker to a minter (loose watch).. £2500-3500.. I could be way off - I'm sure an expert will be along to put me right. Mines not perfect, but I didn't want something so mint I wouldn't wear it.
Great pick up!
Fantastic watch, however that Heuer strap looks like some kind of blasphemy to me :D
That Lumix makes terrific photographs btw!
Dare I say it...? Would look lovely on a mesh.... :)
Just a thought, would you be able to fit a Rolex buckle to one of your Heuerville straps?
Congratulations and welcome the Rolex family - you have purchased the best of the Rolex collection.
I really want a vintage gloss Submariner (and a vintage Panasonic) now. Great photos!
