    Archimede Pilot Bronze

What a surprise! Archimede announced watch in 42mm bronze case.
    Comming in March :)

Very nice, is Bronze going to be the new Stainless for 2013, lol!!??

Saying that, I quite fancy a bronze of some sort. Eddie's PRS-30 (?) I'd certainly be interested in depending on price.

That looks great and the price looks good too. Also great to see another bronze cased piece with bronze crown. March you say? Not that far away at all. Will no doubt be here before the elusive PRS30.

Is 92% copper a standard mix for a Bronze cased watch? I'd expect it to be very soft at that percentage, and maybe show signs of wear quite quickly.

It is CuSn8 and I think it is the same alloy that Panerai used.

Maybe that 8% tin makes all of the difference!

I've got to admit...I don't really get the whole bronze thing.

€560 including taxes. UK price is currently nearly 600 €, so I'd buy direct.

I really like the proposed "Classic", too. From Archimedes' forum at Watch'n'Clock:

...but what do I know; I don't even like watches!

    Just what I thought,

A bronze crown makes all the difference IMHO.

    Daddel.

Nice price, but I much prefer the look of the classic posted above.

I was thinking exactly the same thing. I don't really see the appeal, maybe I'm missing the point here. They always look a bit cheap to me (even though I know they're not).

Can someone educate me: how do the properties of bronze used in watch cases/crowns differ from SS or gold? Any advantages or disadvantages? Does bronze stain or tarnish? Why is it not more prevalent?

The only one I can answer is that it does patina something lovely when used. Though it might not be for everyone.

I think it's the whole "Jules Verne" steam punk thing with bronze that appeals to me,unfortunately the only one ive seen in the flesh so far was the Panerai owned by Shadowman which is stunning, but sadly out my price range.
The bronze crown really sets off pieces as opposed to the stainless used on Magrette etc, which to this time has stopped me buying one, although I'm not sure it works on a flieger.

I like the contrast between brushed and polished surfaces, would each finish age differently?

Yuck....sorry, that patina has totally put me off! I'm out!

I love the patina on the Panerai but I feel it doesn't fit to the dial at all.

My colleague had the bronze Panerai 47mm and I don't get the bronze thing at all.

After a few months he thankfully sold the ghastly thing, it was looking very tatty. Daft size too.
