Is a coin purse EVER acceptable for a bloke?

I have a friend ( it really isn't me, honest ) who has brought the subject up twice now, he's only in his late 30s and he says his trouser pockets wear out with coins rattling around in them. I've tried to explain that no, it's not a acceptable accessory for a young bloke, he's tried to call it a coin wallet in a bid to be credible but no, it's a purse and as such it's for girls....
Can I get support from the TZ collective?
He is a member here but I promised I wouldnt name him... Yet....
    Cheers..

It's not the coins wearing the pockets. And purses are for ladies.

I have a friend in his mid thirties that has always in adulthood had one.
It's pretty embarrassing when he pulls it out to pay for something with shrapnel
On the other hand, I have a drawer full of loose change where I keep emptying my pockets.
The only pockets I remember wearing out are on my cheap work trousers. I think it's more to do with quality than wear from coins

Completely unacceptable. Falls in the same category as bum bags, mobile phone cases that clip to your belt, and any Louis Vuitton accessory for men.

I'm not particularly comfortable with this either, although it offends me less. A bloke's wallet should contain cards and a wedge of notes. Not coins.

He fought in two world wars. He can do whatever the hell he likes and it is automatically deemed acceptable.

Totally unacceptable, I have a mate who is a rich git and NEVER carries coins, if he is given coins in his change he leaves it on the counter, tell your mate to man up!

Easily resolved, get him a huge Bells whiskey bottle and tell him to put all his change in there, when its full should be enough to buy a decent watch.

Re: Is a coin purse EVER acceptable for a bloke?

    Unacceptable.

I have a bowl next to my bed that all change goes in to at night - and stays there until it can be transported to the machine in Asda that takes it away somewhere. Or until it just vanishes... that also happens sometimes...

You have a friend who carries loose change?

    I would seek new companions...

+1......I`ve done this for 30 years or more. When my wallet wears out I buy another one that's the same design.

Being a self-confessed tight Yorkshire git my wallet doesn`t come out more often than it has to!

    Is it Derek?

Is it one of those things you have to shake a bit to get the coins to slide out? I thought they were issued with a pension?

Its not Derek surprisingly, I think he's probably already got one, he doesn't ask me my opinion anyway, he just makes mistakes on his own..

Get a wife, spend only notes, put all shrapnel on the side at night and hey presto - within a few days it's gone.

I use a wallet to keep all my cards/cash in one place at home. If I'm going out I will take cash folded in half around the cash card.

I have to admit, I quite like that reply :)

Still, coin purses - I have a friend called Neil, he's now a big cheese at Microsoft in Seattle, but when we worked together he lived in Windsor Castle, as he sang in the choir there (I'm painting the picture of the kind of guy he is). He always used a coin purse. People always assumed he was gay. He always managed to entertain more ladies than I did.

I have another friend who carries his change around in a bread bag, and I once saw him pay cash for a bicycle (and not a cheap one) out of this bag, pulling coins and notes until he had enough out of the bag. I think he's still a virgin.

I have a wife. I never have money, let alone spare change.

I have a coin purse. I carry it, along with my phone, wallet, keys, a small torch, and a Swiss-army knife, in a black-leather clutch-bag. I've carried similar for the last 30 years, and probably will do till my time is up.

I really don't care what others think or say about that - why should my coin-carrying arrangements be a source of embarrassment or of concern to someone else?

As the user of a LV Taiga diary cover and a matching wallet (jacket breast-pocket kind), I resemble that remark!

    No no and no.

Every night change is left is box and reallocated to kids for school lunches etc.

Besides these days most costs can be paid by card - even small sums.

I suggest that the offending member be handed a service revolver and left alone for a few minutes to do the right thing. This is well and truly beyond the pale.

A coin purse is the mark of a cad and bounder (along with the windsor knot &c.)

I suspect that I'm not doing the cool thing, but I use a film cannister. (With coloured electrical tape so that I don't reach for some change, and end up with some ISO 400 film instead.)

    Best wishes,

    Game, set, match.

In answer to the original question - No.

Actually, I'm surprised that in this day and age, you can't buy a "Tactical" coin purse, which can be carried in a "Tactical" man-bag.

Cue somebody posting a link to such an item............
