Red rag.... Bull!
Red rag.... Bull!
I was quite enjoying the sound track before I remembered what I was watching
And there are many more videos on Youtube of motorists doing worse .....
Pete (petrolhead and cyclist)
Sure they'll all be laughing when they're wrapped across a bonnet. Idiots the lot of them, and I'm not just another motorist slagging off cyclists as I used to be an avid mountain biker and my dad lives and breathes push bikes. People like that give cyclists a bad name and unfortunately there is only one way they'll learn.
Ride like a pilloch like some of those and you deserve to get knocked off!
I am an avid cyclist.
Bunch of pricks!!
Some good bike handling though.
I was reading in the paper this morning about an app/website that enables and encourages people to record and compete in time trials across both urban and rural routes. There are a lot of cyclists around where I live, and whilst I've not seen anyone really going for it on a solo trial, the local cycle club heads out in packs of upto 30 lycra clad 30-40somethings and they just swam around the road and cut corners like they're on a street race. Any motorist who may (through not fault of their own) hold them up or want to get past in any way is subject to a barrage of abuse or worse, from a group of grown men who really should know better.
It was called Strava, I can see the whole virtual competition thing being a good idea and very motivating, but I worry for people taking risks just to try and beat a number on the Internet. Especially when you could just cheat and drive around in a car with it on :)
There's a recent new trend here in the Derbyshire Dales for large groups of about 40 cyclists to ride 4 abreast even on long windy uphill sections with double white lines,I'm very pro cycling but it infuriates me and sooner or later can see it ending up with a death.
Strava? I've used it for ages and its not at all about becoming a menace. It's a terrific free app for both runners and cyclists and is a great training tool. There's a TZ club in Strava.
Have loads of cyclists around here all riding 2-4 abreast and it's very annoying they don't seem to care when they have a queue of traffic behind them because people don't like overtaking cyclists
Some crazy stuff there Ill agree, some might say irresponsible, but no more irresponsible than polluting our planet with gas guzzling cars and taking the lazy approach to completing journeys, most of which are less than 2-3 miles and actually do not require a automobile! So yes they are idiots but no more idiots than the overweight unfit carbon chuffers
RIAC
We all share the road and that works both ways. Sometimes cars will need to wait for cyclists till its safe to move back into single file or closer to the gutter. I know it's infuriating to have an extra few minutes put on your drive but that's the way it goes. Likewise cyclists must try be considerate road users too.
Josh,
If it was just a couple of minutes I would agree but it's not,it is inconsiderate to other road users and sooner or later unless its stopped will almost certainly end in tears.
Edited to add this from Highway Code which I wasn't aware of before:
66
You should
keep both hands on the handlebars except when signalling or changing gear
keep both feet on the pedals
never ride more than two abreast, and ride in single file on narrow or busy roads and when riding round bends
not ride close behind another vehicle
not carry anything which will affect your balance or may get tangled up with your wheels or chain
be considerate of other road users, particularly blind and partially sighted pedestrians. Let them know you are there when necessary, for example, by ringing your bell if you have one. It is recommended that a bell be fitted.

I have to admit i am one of the worst when seeing cyclists doing wrong, as a cyclist i hate seeing other cyclists cutting up or through traffic, jumping red lights and so on, it's the same with the Sunday club that we have round here, why they need to go down A roads is something i don't understand, it's all about putting in the miles, so why actively go into the busy areas, do people plan their rides anymore?
Those people are mental. Though It does look like fun until you get crushed under something a lot bigger than you.
I find a lack of superpowers and the fact I don't heal as quickly as I did when I was a kid tend to keep me sensible on my bike these days.
bloody idiots....
that is not cool, funny or exciting....
they give cyclists a bad name....
BSNYC is not a fan, either:
The good news is that they're a hazard mainly to themselves. The bad PR is unfortunate, but I'd still feel far safer near that minority of badly behaved "cyclists" than the equivalent minority of badly behaved drivers that I've encountered, particularly in Australia and North America.Of course, while I may be a failure, things could be worse. For example, I could be a middle-aged IT guy who wears a helmet cam, chases a bunch of idiots half his age, and then hawks the footage on the Internet, like Lucas Brunelle.
Though in all fairness I suppose idiots chasing other idiots is the basis of pretty much every form of "competitive" cycling, from the Tour de France on down. In fact, idiots are so compelled to chase other idiots that they need to do it even when they're alone, which is why they invented Strava. I suppose I could blame Strava for this, but it wouldn't be fair, since they're just fulfilling a desire that's already there. It would be like blaming the Jergens people for masturbation. Anyway, congratulations to Lucas Brunelle for emptying the "spank bank" of idiot porn he collected during his vacation days, and I'm sure this will appeal to the sorts of viewers who find "Premium Rush" too intellectually challenging.
Selfish stupid idiots.
No excuse to ride like this on the public highway. If one of them were to be injured or even ended as a fatality due to contact or actions of a motor vehicle the driver of said vehicle would have to live with that guilt for the rest of their life!!!!!!

Surely many of the countries featured here insist on carrying ID at all times?
Maybe the Police need to stop some of these idiots and fine them/put them up overnight before they do some harm to the rest of us....
...and/or maybe all cyclists should have insurance - to pay for the damage the cause to themselves and others?
Having fun in a controlled safe environment is one thing, this is eye watering to watch as you are just waiting for the sound of bone to metal all the way through...
Do naughty cyclists annoy me? Yes
Do naughty motorists annoy me? Yes
Do most cyclists annoy me? No
Do most motorists annoy me? No
What annoys me more than naughty cyclists are cyclists who maintain that they are never in the wrong and that it is always the fault of others when something goes wrong.
A few years ago I saw a courier bloke ride in to an older lady from behind on the pavement and his wheel stripped a chunk of flesh off her calf... the last thing he shouted as he vanished down the street was "watch where you are going"...
Urban dickheads and I'm a cyclist.
Not sure why drivers are being dragged into this, as their behaviour is irrelevant to the video in the OP.
Anyway, living in a village, my progress in the car is often hindered by large groups of Wiggo wannabees cycling in clumps down narrow country roads and I have to say that one upside to the recent snow is that they all stayed indoors for a bit, which was lovely.
Is it only me who enjoyed the video?
Need to practice my bus drafting skills some more, for sure..
Oh dear. Mentioning road tax in a cycling thread is the equivalent of Godwin's law.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godwin's_law
Insurance however, is a good thing to have. Most club cyclists will have this through affliiation with CTC or British Cycling so those lycra clad wiggo wannabees will probably have 3rd party insurance.
except they stray into the road and after car users are the second highest set of casualties on the roads so the insurance point stands.
Highways are built together with pavements etc so same budget so road tax point stands too (inasmuch as the dosh isnt snaffled by govt for other stuff anyway)

Many Cyclists have an attitude, they seem to delight in winding up and obstructing the flow of traffic.
If there is a cycle lane it should be mandatory for cyclists to use, no ifs or buts or choice.
It is a cycle lane, it is for people on cycles to use, to keep them away from cars and lorries.
