Could be a stinker but should be protected so thought I'd take a risk!

Is the picture really as blurry as it seems or am I that drunk?

looks dodgy but if you feel comfortable going through paypal dispute to claim your money back if it turns out fake then good luck!

I'd be interested to see a follow up to this once you get the watch.

On a night when I'm sober I wouldn't have gone for this, but feels like an experiment to how eBay react if someone sells a fake. To be honest I probably couldn't spot a fake panerai anyway but I'm sure people here will know.

I hope it all goes well for you, it must be a rotten feeling knowing you may have made a mistake like that, all the best.

I thought I was bad just purchasing this on a whim for £30! Wanted to buy a cheap vintage watch before I take the plunge on some more expensive Omega's from the 60's to see if I can handle the smaller sizes.

It could be a stinker?! You haven't seriously paid £700 for this have you? Even though the picture is intentailly microscopic it's not hard to deduce its a cheap fake with a broken strap and clasp.

Best of luck getting an authorised dealer to write a report confirming its a fake so you can get a refund.

Look at the bottom of the page for the pertinent point...

Panerai do not make, and have never made, quartz watches.

I know they don't make quartz. I was very drunk. I haven't paid yet. I'm working near the seller next week so no harm in looking though.

In fairness, the seller probably thinks all watches are powered by a battery. I mean, how else could a watch run?

If when the watch turns out to be fake and you get your money back, I'll save you some money and you can have mine for £500

    Sounds fair to me

My can all laugh in the morning. My favourite part is in the description where he says:

"as i mentioned earlier the clasp and strap are broken so will need replacing"

Where as he mentioned this earlier?

Seems like a crazy thing for the OP to get involved in.

I once bought a watch with a blue dialfrom German ebay whilst quite drunk; my hasty translation and the poor photos caused me to believe the dial was black. The strap was black, though. Thankfully the watch was fine and I got a good deal.

If the OP gets his fingers burnt by this episode he's only got himself to blame.........this could end badly.

I can't believe you bid on that! just let me know what beer you were drinking and I will make sure I avoid it :) I would just to ebay say you have made a mistake when entering the bid amount, that should work for you as you really need to do something to stop this purchase as this will really end in tears and it's not exactly a £50 punt is it.

No harm done if you are going to see the watch before paying.

Could be a onto a winner.

    On the other hand

    The anticipation must be great.

A few drinks on a Friday night leads to a dodgy eBay purchase.

It's your civic responsibility to go visit the seller and bring along a couple of cops, a lawyer, the lead counsel for Panerai, an exorcist, and a light anti-acid. Anything less and you're a wuss.

The surprising thing is you weren't the only one bidding decent money on the basis of a postage stamp picture and a dopey description.
I once bought a Speedmaster Pro, on eBay, from a seller who described it as needing a battery - his explanation was that it didn't run more than a few secs when he shook it, so obviously the battery was dead. There was one tiny, blurred picture that was sufficient to confirm that it actually was a manual rather than an auto and when it arrived it turned out to be a decent example, complete with the proper box that hadn't been mentioned at all. You'll have the last laugh if it turns out to be a 5218/201A.

I think if my judgement became that impaired when I'm on the lash I'd have to either give up the sauce altogether or ensure I can contact nobody, be it directly or electronically, until I was sober.

Gutsier than me! - Possible he doesn't know the watch well enough to know it's not quartz... he does say in the questions bit that he found it a few years ago.

Would also like to know the outcome!

first watch i bought off ebay was a 1960's omega that needed a battery :)
along with a "really nice" pulsar that was better than the omega ?!
One picture, but a full size.

anyway bought the pair for £55 omega turned out to be a nice vintage manual wind, i got lucky.

    Lets hope you do :)

Have to say, I have a bad feeling about this, but hope for OP's sake I'm wrong.
