Incoming !! Birth Year Vintage Seiko

Been looking for a while for an attainable birth year watch and the Seiko 6139 series caught my eye.........The search began.
A response from a forum member (Thanks Duncan!) brought the offer of a June '74 Seiko 6139 6002 in beautiful original condition. A quick clean and resize and I'm loving it !!

The size is nice and big for the vintage.

And an original ad found on the WWW

Also picked up this Seiko FFF mod from another SC as' as a practical daily. Really impressed by the quality and love the look.

Great choice, congratulations on the 6139!
I've had a few variations but am currently down to just this one that I thinks works well on a dark blue nato,

    (sorry about the bezel... )

And here's one more ad for you (albeit for the Pogue version),

These are great, and have nice movements, too (column-wheel chronographs)!

    Here's mine.

Thanks, no the (inner) bezel is just off center which is a terrible offense around these parts...

I'm glad you like it Si!

I still have this one from 1975:

And a couple more in the process of being rebuilt!

Some very nice watches there, I have a couple of Seiko's, Samurai and Orange Monster, must wear them a bit more.

I love these but wasn't that old contemporary advertising dodgy? Gay or macho, take your choice.

That said I have one of the original "all man" ads here in my collection.

Here's a 6139 of mine, an Australian market model in NOS condition I bought some years ago.

Note the black inner bezel and different style bracelet from the norm.

    Cheers,
    Neil.

That is stunning and quite difficult to get in such good condition, I also prefer the look of the blue and black versions over the more popular gold "Pogue".

As a novice, how can you tell which particular year (let alone month) a 6139 comes from?

The first character of the serial number indicates the year of production, you have to know which decade the watch was produced in though. The second character indicates the month, 1-9 for Jan to Sep, then O, N, D for Oct to Dec.

Alternatively you could download my little spreadsheet that will do the calculation for you

Thats the beauty of anyone looking for a birthyear watch with Seiko, you can actually get it to the month and year, which is what I did with my 6105.

That's a great help... now I just need to ask sellers for the first two s/n characters of watches I like the look of!

What a lovely watch. The black face is probably more to my taste than the gold as its more subtle. Looks great on the NATO pictures. A Seiko diver with Pepsi dial was my uncles favourite watch when I was a boy and it was my first purchase as a proper enthusiast. Great choice.

I have a Pogue 73 model and love it! That said my bracelet seems like a cheap repro. Anyone know where to source decent bracelets for them?
