My new arrival - Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Aqua Lung

After a very, very quick process to buy the Fifty Fathoms Aqua Lung from Blowers - must have taken all of 10 mins from skyman saying 'take a look at this' in a reply to my poll about that and a Villeret for my next purchase. The tense wait for it to arrive at work was finally over at 2:15pm. Luckily I share an office with a keen photograher with a handy macro lens and photoshop and here are the first photos they were happy with:

including an arty black and white one:

Needless to say, I love it and feel very, very lucky to have got it for such a good price!

    Better update my signature now.....

When you are dealing with an artist you have to take what you are given! And they wanted to try out some extreme close ups or macro photography to the pros. If I had done it, it would have been with a phone camera....

The differences between this and the standard FF are that it comes with a satin brushed finish, rather than the polished finish. I think the new blue dialled ones will be satin brushed too. It also has painted numbers not applied ones and it has a display back with a lovely propellor style rotor. The hands are also closer to the origianl from the 50s than the standard model and the bevel doesn't have minute markers in the final 15 minutes (like the 50s model) while the standard model does. It also comes with the strap changing kit and a spare rubber strap.

Great macro shots, Its nice to see this one up close.

I love the quality of the dial printing of the fine script font on this model, very different to the dial printing quality we saw on some macro shots of a JLC recently on this forum, that was shockingly bad, not at all what you would expect from a quality marque.

Those taster shots are looking very good. Almost bought it myself, but posted on your thread before giving it more serious thought!

I am so glad you did! Apparently when Mark (Blowers) put the phone down from me, one of his colleagues was mid negotiation with another buyer and was just about to take payment. So it was skin of the teeth stuff!

The best-named watch in the world ever - Fifty Fathoms Aqua Lung - sounds very sinister.

Very nice , but I do prefer the applied rather than painted markers on the Blancpain.

Ideal combo for me would be applied and brushed finish. I think the blue dial (very new) models have this but this was a bargain and way too good to miss.

Don't get me wrong Ged, that's a superb looking watch, one which I would be very pleased to own regardless of applied or painted.
Congratulations on acquiring an outstanding timepiece

Thanks. I wasn't taking offence and I totally agree that applied are nicer. There is no perfect watch but I am happy with how close this one is for me.

Love the FF, does this one have the strap with the holes in it.?

If so do you like it as I think the normal strap is much better????

Is There a reason for these straps with holes or just for looks...?

Either way that's a cracker and brushed finish is lovely...what did you buy it for Everyday use or casual....always struck me as a perfect watch as it can be smart, sporty and perfect for holidays too.

    well played

That is my favourite FF by far. The brushed finish, painted numbers, clear caseback and 'propellor' all do it for me. IMO the standard one is too bling.

Many congratulations on a good choice - enjoy!

Here are more pics for those who want to see the whole watch http://www.blowers-jewellers.co.uk/s...15c113052b.htm and a few pinched from the web:

Gorgeous! However, I prefer the look of the triangular hour markers and sword hands on the standard FF to the rectangular ones on the Aqua Lung... but that's just me!

I like that a lot. I've been looking at the Rose Gold FF and one of the things that disappointed me about it slightly was the boring case back. Your watch looks fantastic!

    Thanks for all the congratulations

Thanks to everyone who has commented on the FF. I am absolutely delighted with it and can't stop looking at it. I can undertand pinpull's preference for the sword hands and triangular indices and joethetoe's leaning towards the standard strap but hey we all have different tastes and this version has definitely become the best compromise of all the FF style variations. I shall endeavour to get a few more photos out of my artistic office mate this week but I don't think it will be today - she's hungover!
