Thread: Any views on Raymond Weil ?

Any views on Raymond Weil ?

I'm searching for a reasonable sized automatic GMT watch (~ £1K) and came across a couple of Raymond Weil ones.

    Any thoughts on the brands?

I've got a couple of Quartz's and find them both well made and reliable.

I think theyre a good buy at a sub £1000 price tag. They make some really nice pieces.

Quite well made - but run of the mill and lower end Swiss - in that Rolex and Omega are mid end Swiss.

Personally I'd much prefer almost anything from the likes of:

    Timefactors
    Fortis
    Tissot
    Longines
    Glycine

and quite a few others before I'd look at them - in fact that is probably a lie, I don't think I would get round to looking at them with all the other options to be fair.
It's just a matter of time...

Not sure where you are, but on this side of the pond, they are considered to be a bit of a "mall brand". More fashion watch then anything else. With that budget, surely you could find something used with a bit better quality?

Whilst I like the look of the watches you have included in your links, I think the watch snob in me would prevent me from buying a Raymond Weil. I could be wrong but I think they are aimed at those that aren't that interested in watches. They want something that looks nice but that's where their interest in watches ends. You often see these discounted but I've never really been tempted.

If you can get a good discount they are very well made and worth a shot .The bracelet on my freelancer model is first class .

I must admit I do seem to be discounted a lot on Amazon, still worth asking.
I think I'd still like to go for the Longines Sport GMT with white dial..

I much prefer that - but would prefer a used Omega Seamaster for between £900 and £1200 a lot more.

Nothing wrong with them. Independent and family owned. They have a massive presence and are seen in most shopping centres. They mainly focus on dress watches and they are a decent watch for under a grand. I have a freelancer auto and its very well made.

For that budget I'd be looking at a Steinhart like this one:

    Thanks for your advice guys!
I think I'll save up a bit and buy the Longines GMT with white dial (I had a quick look in Goldsmiths and EJ today - Portsmouth) but couldn't see any :(

Not my cup of tea but often see a selection of Raymond Weil watches in Costco at reasonable prices.

My pleasure, hope you get sorted, as you can see I thought about it myself but ending up buying something more dressy as I have plenty of diver style watches already.

I have a Freelancer also. It was my first expensive purchase and I love it. The watch doesn't lack in quality, even when compared to my Rolex. The Bracelet is by far the best bracelet I have come across to date. I think they are very good buys and under rated.
