Thread: if you could have one of these 3

  1. #1

if you could have one of these 3

About 1 year ago I took this picture. All watches beloged to a collector I once met.

This is imo the top, I'm not interested in tourbillons or repeaters. 3 Patek chrono's.
    1 simple platinum 5070
    1 white gold 5970
    1 white gold 5270

Now, if you could choose 1, which one would it be?

I would take the 5070 platinum not as complicated as the other 2 but such a beautifull piece.

    left 5070 - middle 5970 - right 5270

if you could have one of these 3

    Right on looks alone

5270 for me as looks the largest and least cluttered, but tbh none are really my thing - but that doesn't stop me appreciating them for what they are.

Prefer the slightly more spacious dial on the 5270. Where's the Nautilus chrono though ;-)

5270, based on looks rather than knowledge of these watches.

I think the 5270 is the clearest and most striking of them but its not the best picture taken, the dirty grey isnt great at all

    5270 all the way.

Never seen any of those before and they are all bloody lovely. After much study of pictures and inner debate, it's the 5070 just from the one next to it. Close though.

Absolutely the 5070. They had one in the PP display at Tiffany in New York last year and I fell in love with the dial there and then.

Plus, as a platinum model it'd weigh in for a few bob if I was in a squeeze...

It would be the 5270 for me.

    Hello all.

5270 is a seriously fantastic watch and would be my choice.

Here is an overview offered on a sales site I will not mention (as I am new and am not sure what is allowed and what isn't) where it is compared to the 5970:

The 5270 offers technical and aesthetic updates in abundance. Its case is slightly larger at 41mm versus 40mm, and thinner by .6mm, but more importantly, the new dial has a visible diameter of 32.4mm and the tachometer scale has been removed, enhancing the perception of increased size and openness. The leap year cycle is displayed numerically in a small, round aperture at 4:30, and day/night is displayed in an aperture at 7:30. These displays are easier to read than the 5970’s tiny hands on the subdials at 3 and 9 o’clock. Due to the configuration of the new manufacture caliber, the 5270’s seconds subdial and the 30-minute counter are positioned beneath the horizontal centerline, shifting the “weight” of the dial to the lower half.

Overall, the new 5270 dial is cleaner, more modern, and easier to read. Some might say the 5270 looks less complicated than its predecessor, and that is not a bad thing when clarity is the object of the exercise.

The 18K white gold case remains a classic three-part construction manufactured in-house with the traditional cold-forming technique. The white-gold chronograph pushers exhibit the same shape as those found on Patek Philippe chronographs from the 1940s and 50s. The lugs, also inspired by earlier models, display more character than those on the 5970. The screwed display back with the sapphire-crystal window showcases the manufacture movement beneath. A solid caseback is also included.

5070. I rather like the truncated numbers and simpler layout.

No contest 5270 - and the 5070 looks crap with the hour cut-outs too!
It's just a matter of time...

i think all 3 watches have watchfaces that are too busy. so wouldn't choose either of them. problem with patek, is they are always out to make watches with so many complications. now if only they could make an annual callender with power reserve, no chronograph.... that would be a winner!

    5720 for me

I was going to answer but then remembered that 'those that need to know, know. Those that don't know, don't need to know'.

As much as I prefer platinum over gold, I'd have to pick the 5270 as it is just stunning.
