All extremely nice Neil. I particularly like the pointed hands on the '60s models.
I am not a blind follower of makes and appreciate any fine watch but VFM and quality has drawn me to 1960's Seikos.
At the time they were obviously trying to break into the better quality western market and had to present a conservatively styled watch with a quality movement. Two objects that I appreciate.
Seiko have never had a great reputation amongst most of the public and generally the stuff you get over here is basic so it is is fairly easy to relieve sellers of old quality pieces for very little cash. :D
You may have seen the Seiko-Matic I bought yesterday, well here's the movement.
35 jewels, it hacks and a fine adjuster. Very nice for 41 years old.
Here are some more 1960's watches I was lucky enough to pick up cheap.
Skyliner. This watch is gorgeous.
Sportsmatic calendar
...and did I forget the chronometer  OK it's from 1971 and already gone over to the horrible stick hands but still a nice piece.
And just a very plain calibre 66..
Come on let's see your nice 1960's Seikos. None of the modern rubbish please.
Cheers,
Neil.

Fantastic watches Neil. :)
I really like the one picked up the other day. beautiful.
I agree, for me, most modern stuff is not may fave.
the design of some vintage Seikos is excellent. Quality clearly v. good.
Best Wishes,
P :)
Great watches Neil and I couldn't agree more. If people want to turn their noses up at vintage Seiko's that's just fine by me... and my wallet! :D
Here are a few of my 60's survivors...
Sealion M330 (1968).
Sealion M110 (1968).
Sportsman (1968).
Bell-Matic (1967).
With such great vintage Seikos around.... who needs a new one??
Rich.
PS. Sorry for the large pics... :?
I've got several 6138's and 6139's, although they aren't from the 60's, but the 70's to be exact, you can't just rule them out!
Some of these have been serviced once in this period and they have never quit to function! Also: very precise, sometimes much better than new swiss automatics!
By the way: if you look at the new Seiko's like the Seiko Spirit (the budget Grand Seiko so to say), don't you find them astonishing for the price?
Great watches :D
Unfortunately, the only 60ies model I have is myself, and I am not a Seiko :(
Cheers,
Gert
Stop it. Stop it now.
You lot are incorrigible. Not content with me buying 5 watches this month when I'm supposed to be saving for Christmas, you're now tempting me with more lovely watches.
Neil - my favourites of yours are the Seikomatic and the cal.66.
Richie - love your Sealion, Sportsman and Bellmatic.
Bernard - I'm like you I have a couple of 6138's and one 6139 as well as 3 modern Seiko's, looks like I'm going have to cast my net out even further.
Aifrid - There is something about those elegant lines and proportions that is really appealing, coupled with obvious quality. Seiko where really trying hard to break into the European market and cast aside the negative stigma and snobbery of having "Made in Japan" on your dial.
Now please stop it, I don't think my wife is speaking to me as it is, carry on like this and I'll she'll be citing you all on the divorce papers

Cheers

:D i work with a lad that has a seiko that was given to him by his dad the watch is around 45 years old never had a service 8) and keeps good time :P
excellent watches then and now
Absolutely stunning watches gents! Now I have something else to spend the money I do not have on. :)
Very nice Neil. The quality of the movements does look better than most of the the modern ones.
Hi all
You have to love a bit of 60s Seiko:
For him a '67 and her a '69:
Thanks
deano
Some lovely Seikos there. :) And from those pictures it's hard to understand why the brand is so underrated in the UK.
I don't have any Seikos from the 60's myself, my oldest one being from the early 80s. :(
Best Regards - Peter
I'd hate to be with you when you're on your own.
From 1962 the Gyro Marvel.....
I love the rotors on old 60s autos like these Seikos and old Longines - much more attractive than the thing swinging on a 2824-2 or a 7750.Originally Posted by Neil.C
wonderful pieces gents... definately underated quality 8) i woulnt mind adding a vintage grand seiko .. but i bet you dont come across mainy of those in the boot markets
Very nice Neil if only Seiko would return to this style and build quality they would do a lot better.

Here's my Seiko Sportsmatic from February 1969. It's on lovely condition for a 37 year old, the only small blemish being a mark on the face between 10 and 11. Unfortunately the back is on really tight and I'd hate to be the first to slip and mark the watch, so no movement pics I'm afraid. All being well I'll probably get it serviced in the New Year so I'll take some pics then.
IMHO this is a really elegant and beautuful watch from a period when Seiko were really trying to break into the European market and boy does it show.
I'll let you be the judge.
And finally a wrist shot for Stefan, 'cause he'll only ask
Cheers all and have great weekends.
Gary
On the contrary, all mine came from boot sales. :DOriginally Posted by omegaUK

Very nice Robert and historically important.Originally Posted by docrwm
Wasn't that Seikos first auto and actually based on a Swiss movement with Seiko rotor and winding gear?
