    I'm after a new watch.

I'm looking for a fairly robust watch with a day-date feature. Something along the lines of a Damasko DA36/46. I've looked at Bremont and Sinn and quite a few Seikos and of that bunch I'm leaning more towards the Bremont MII. But before I take the plunge I was wondering if anyone on here can recommend anything else for me to consider. I'd prefer something with the day and date next to each other and not like the Omega Speedmaster where the date is indicated by a hand and an outer ring of numbers.

    Thanks in advance.

p.s. I saw a Davosa pilot watch, does anyone know if they are a good make?

    Something Damasko like.....

How about a Damasko - tough as nails, and extremely stylish!

Never really " got" the Bremont thing though I'm sure they are nice enough. That Fortis chrono is a great piece of kit. Had a couple of them and would
    highly recommend.

You could look at a Ball Engineer 11. It has the day date configuration you want. There is nothing much tougher and the lume is great.

Have a look through these... Damasko are along the line of Damasko.

I've owned a couple and have been very impressed; you'll really struggle to mark the ice hardened cases plus they anti-magnetic, shockproof, etc. Very robust!

    I have a Damasko DA37 and a Bremont MBII.

The DA37 is great, but the Bremont is many times better.

As watches go up in price, there is typically a "diminishing marginal utility". I'd be interested to know what makes a(ny) Bremont "many times better" than a Damasko.....

One of the Seiko 5s for peanuts, lots of different designs to choose from, lots of them with day/date.

Good shout. I'm amazed at how much I like my 5 as an everyday beater.

Of course the "many times better" cannot be objectively measured, but you already know that. In terms of functionality, they are pretty similar - hardened case, anti-magnetic, and pretty accurate movements (although my MBII keeps better time than my DA37).

The hardened case on the Damasko has a very smooth finish and can appear a bit 'plasticky', whereas the MBII has a more typical brushed finish, which I prefer.

Other than that, I prefer the MBII for it's weight, the dial proportions, the inner bezel (which is a great feature imo), the domed crystal and better A/R (with a lot less of the smearing that happens on the Damasko). I also like the coloured case barrel and the case construction.

As you said, the differences are not necessarily 'worth' anything to others, but for me, they make the watch several times more satisfying.

From the tone of your question, I doubt you will agree, but that's ok. :)

I would strongly recommend the MB2. I really miss my MB1.5 and am thinking of tracking down an MB2 to replace it. One of the best finished watches I've seen in any price range.

Thanks for the explanation. I fully understand the feeling of "several times more satisfying", it was the just the objectiveness of "is many times better" that I wondered about .
