St John the Baptist Parish Church Peterborough - stained glass windows and chancel carving

Leica C compact camera which fits in my shirt pocket - handheld above my head to minimise converging verticals - but which required final PS adjustment to straighten.

"OK - anyone can take a shot of a interesting skyline or beautiful building. How challenging is that? A more challenging task is taking an everyday slice of urban innanity and turning that into an interesting shot.

Post your shots of urban landscape fragments - stressing the fragments. I don't mean street scenes; I don't mean people shots. Not shots of a building but an interesting fragment of the building - a window, it's sign, it's brickwork, it's porch, it's cracking paint. It can be a wall, a doorway, a sidewalk, an interesting object in the urban landscape (i.e. hydrant, sewer grate, wooden skid, fire escape. Light bulb, snow on a barb wire fence, ect.). It can be boring inanimate objects but arrayed in an interesting pattern. It can be a decaying wall, beautiful old neon sign, a lone piece of trash on a cobble stone street.
One of the things I like about photography is the way one can take something common and mundane, yet somehow engage the viewer to notice it's beauty or interestingness. Post shots of architectural details or objects that most people walk by without noticing – a photo that suggests there's something worth stopping for the next time one walks by (if one had time in this busy life).
So ideally, there should be no people, no skies or horizons, no whole buildings or cityscapes – just fully filled frames of urban fragments from the urban jungle in which we exist.
It can be an interesting pattern of something as mundane as a taxi sign or bike racks."

Section of the Arch of Titus.

Literally some fragments, of a pot plant run over by either the Postie, or a tired and inattentive neighbour.

Glad I stumbled on this thread last night, it made my walk to work a different experience this morning, looking at things with a different perspective. Thanks for that, so often we become 'blind' or indifferent to our surroundings and there's so many lovely or unusual sights to see.

Thanks! I was on the way back to my hotel from a 6.30am stroll around Stratford and the light was very nice, the chimneys were begging for some under exposure and contrast. Used my Canon G12, -2 Ex.Comp. Opened the RAW file in Lightroom to crop, then into Silver Efex Pro2 to convert to mono with a high contrast preset. The whole Nik software suite, containing Silver Efex is free now, it's very good and well worth having.

Initially put this in the random thread, but I reckon it's a better fit here ...

Well, PB took it all away, so may as well start putting a few back as the migration to SmugMug progresses, here's one of the first in this thread . . .
