Sorbothane insoles, go for the full length ones not the heel and toe versions. Work for years when i was in the mob, and i covered MANY miles carrying a heavy load. They are still going strong, Shock Stopper Double Strike are the current version.http://www.sorbothane.co.uk/index.php/produits.html

I have to disagree! I use the full length ones (Sorbothane Double strike) for football once a week and both heels have a deep hole in it after a few months.

Totally recommend the "Superfeet" brand. Green or Orange.

Haven't been in the UK for a while but I've bought them there before. Many camping shops had/have them, or Amazon UK has them, or look here:

I had the Green, now I have a pair of Orange which I find very slightly thicker.

Might I recommend a visit to Mephisto shoes in Denman Street, just off Shaftesbury Avenue. Going there to buy a pair of shoes is more like a hospital consultation and will take over an hour. The chap who owns the store is fantastic and very knowledgable. He will talk through what you want and measure your needs precisely before offering you any shoes. He stocks many different insoles and can modify them for your personal needs. I cannot recommend him highly enough to everyone. But don't go to the store in Bond Street and expect this level of attention. The Denman Streey shop is marvellous and quite unique in my experience.

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but I have a question about insoles.

I recently bought some walking boots that are slightly too big for me so I thought I'd get some insoles.

Would I be able to buy these things and just slot them in or are they designed to replace the existing insole?

They tend to replace the existing ones but will be thicker with more arch/heel support - I have flat feet & have had good success with the Boots sports ones & also the short inserts for dress shoes the full size inserts don't fit in very well.

I have used them both as replacements and also on top of the existing. It just depends how much space is inside the shoe above the foot, particularly the toe area...

How thick are these Sorbothane? Can you wear them inside a shoe that fits? I want my Loakes to last, and these seem better than a pair of odour eaters...

They are incredibly thick even compared to trainer insoles and can make your shoes very tight. You will need to take out the existing insole and maybe order a size down.
If you have a good fitting shoe now I would say they will take up too much room.
