(Thanks for the offer on the ND filter Rob, I'll have to check the diameter of my lenses - pretty sure I don't have any 77mm)

I like it, nicely abstract. A step up/down ring will get a 77mm circular filter on to a smaller diameter lens.

Thanks gents. I put the picture in here as I was crossing a bridge and happened to see the boat approaching, just time to get the camera out and focus on the oarsmen, pan and hope for the best with whatever settings were on the camera, so a random shot. Turned out to be ISO 200, f5.6 , 1/13th sec, hence the blur on the water and the oars.

Fantastic shot! I love it when a quick snap turns into a great photo. Well done.

Fortunately just me in the car at the time. 12 stitches and a banging headache.

Thanks guys - although I cannot claim the credit for that one... it's my 11 year old's school art project.

She decided to try an Andy Goldsworthy & took the photo herself

I liked it - so decided to post it here.

I'll pass on your comments - she'll be very chuffed

Two quite different shots from a recent trip to Cornwall...

The power of the sea... by Rabc3, on Flickr

The surf was up at Portreath, lots of body boarders out - rather them than me! Although I got a soaking from a rouge wave and my tripod is now still in pieces as I fruitlessly try and clean sand from inside the legs and locking mechanism - and await delivery of a tiny plastic part, (20 worth apparently) that I lost when hosing it down in my in-laws garden in the dark! A Lee 0.9 ND soft grad was employed to balance the exposure and an old polyester 0.6 ND to allow the 1 sec shutter speed to capture the wave movement.

The second shot used off camera flash, (handheld out to camera left) for fill on a gloomy day at the beach - my wife and four month old daughter. :)

    Family... by Rabc3, on Flickr

    Cheers,

    Rob

I like what you've done with the second shot Rob, your subjects are well separated from the background, which you have rendered nicely neutral. Good use of flash too. Beautiful subjects BTW! Note to self, must get out with camera........

Looking through a box of old photo's I came across these, taken at the Reading Rock Festival in August 1980. I guess they were taken with Fujicolor - my film of choice at the time, and using a Nikon FE. They have stood up well to 35 years of storage.

Hope you made it out Bob. I did, and tried to justify buying a D750 by showing myself how my XPro 1 wasn't up to the job {deluded but true in part}.

Didn't get out today Nigel :-( Love the look of fun on the bairn's face splashing the water! Great tones too. I have some plans for trees this winter. Note to self, must get out with camera.....

  45. #245
Thanks Bob, it would have been so easy to leave the camera behind! The light, and possibilities with trees at the moment are good.

Just playing with my new toy. Deliberately underexposing for the background, (people), but using flash for the main subject

Focus was on the tartan colar

Please Note: It is possible that Griswold may know nothing whatsoever about horology. It's even possible that he has never even owned a watch. It is also highly possible the he has a strange imagination. His wife insists he would be far better off paying more attention to taking his medication on time.

    Nigel

The leaves turned and fell quite quickly up here Nigel, they didn't retain much autumnal colour at all. This, combined with my lack of time meant no nice colours this year. :-( However those bare trunks and branches and lengthening shadows should yield some interesting possibilities. Ho hum, here's an autumnal blast from the past................ :-)
