Remember the old advert: Sooner or later, you'll get a Hayter.
Brilliant mowers - you'll never need another one.
My lawn mower mowed its last lawn two weeks ago an blew up yesterday.
I was dead set on a Honda Izy, but am now trying to decide between that and a Hayter Spirit 41.
Does anyone have the above Hayter or have any view on the B&S Engines they use?

My Mountfield has a B&S engine. It's been going strong for 20 years. Just do regular oil changes.
My 30 year old Atco has a B&S engine. I think Ihave changed the oil twice in the last 10 years The engine has never let me down.
My B&S powered mower is also about 20 years old. I regularly top the oil up (once every decade) and other than a blocked fuel pickup in the petrol tank, 30 minutes to diagnose, strip, clean and reassemble it hasn't given a moment's trouble. The cutting's collector is falling to bits however.
Ok I see a pattern. Any experience of recent engines?

I have a Honda thats 10 years old and Ive had it serviced once! Just keeps going and going, its a 4.5hp on a mountfield chassis, infact I dont think Ive sharpened the blade in the last 5 years!

I have the Honda Izy must be about 7 years old now, serviced a few years back never let me down.
mind you as said Haytor and B+S motors are one of the best
Another +1 on the Hayter and B&S engine combo. Mine has the 3.5Hp engine and since I've had it (probably 6 years) just a regular service (oil change/air filter clean etc) has been all that its required except for a new govenor spring this past week (I had been using a spring from a ballpoint pen for a couple of months).
I have heard good things about the Honda though.....
Honda - 20 years old - starts on one pull every time.
Serviced once however I have changed the blades 3 times.
Oh and I have a 100m rear garden so a lot of grass

Haytors are excellent mowers but the real gem are the B&S engines. Have a Haytor Harrier and been using it for 9 years now and still not serviced it!
Ok. So I went to two garden machinery dealers today.
Maybe I looked like a poor g-shock wearer, but both started trying to sell me el-cheapo petrol mowers despite stocking some better stuff. I don't understand why.
So I'll head off out tomorrow again to a different dealer.
Honda is out I think as there is no dealer nearby, so at the moment the Hayter is the one.

My dad had a Honda Izy for 10 years.
Started first time every time but about 1 month ago, the chassis pretty much just totally collapsed.
Looked absolutely perfect outside but underneath it had rusted away.
I've had a Mountfield for around 7 years with a B&S engine, it's never failed me yet.
Suffolk colt - 48 years old this year ------Brilliant.............still got the original manual .............It was my dad's originally.
Get one from the web or the bay of fools and service it...........................or get one of the new ones .............WHICH did a good report on them.Honda EZY or some other ... I can't remember.
