Very sad news. RIP mr armstrong.

His is one name and one achievement which will never be lost from history.

Heard this quote from him on the radio this morning which I rather liked:

"The important achievement of Apollo was demonstrating that humanity is not forever chained to this planet and our visions go rather further than that and our opportunities are unlimited"

I'll get mine out of the safe and do the same....

I'm too young to remember the first moon landing, but as a kid in the 70's Neil Armstrong was true hero. Reading about him as an adult, you realise what pressures and expectations he had on him, and how he dealt with them in such a modest, dignified way.

    RIP

I have the audiobook of Dava Sobel's "Longitude" on which Neil reads his introduction.
His admiration for John Harrison's work is obvious and he says that whenever he was in London he would go to Greenwich
    to visit H4.. THE watch.

    He was a WIS !!

The world is a poorer place for his loss...

It has been glorious here in Calgary with crystal clear nights, and I'm sure that I wasn't the only one looking up at the Moon and giving Mr Armstrong a wink.

I wasn't born when they landed on the moon and it wasn't until I was in my 30's that I really got interested in the achievements of Mercury, Gemini and Apollo and have numerous books and DVD's on the subject - those guys will all be missed over the next couple of decades.

    RIP

We discussed his funeral being on a Blue Moon day (second full moon in one month). 2018 has two Blue Moons, the first on Jan 31.
