My first SOTC - a year on from nowhere...

So, long story short, I had never worn a watch up until a year ago. I decided to buy something nice to celebrate the birth of my son, that watch was the Omega Planet Ocean, having worn it for a short while, I caught the inevitable bug, and found my way to here.

Fast forward to now, I own 10 lovely timepieces, and the hunt is on for more! Most purchased from the SC, a few flips, here and there!

So, let me share some (poor) photo's:

    Firstly, the group shot:

The beater, a quartz Tissot PRC-200, purchased by recomendation from the PH forum (which led me here) as I really didn't know what I was looking for:

The PO, purchased as a hand-me-down for my boy:

A birth-year purchase from the SC, the timeless 6309-7040 (for which I've just ordered a ISOfranerubber for):

Then came another birth-year watch, a RAF issued CWC 6BB on a lovely battleship grey nato

And another birth-year, a rare Heuer 1614, purchased from Italy via Chrono24, with a lot of assistance from a certain Heuer specialist on here! Recently put on one of Eddie's rally straps:

The, I fancied trying soemthing large, I started with a Magrette Moana Pacific, then traded to a Magrette Bronze (brass), worn currently on a fantastic vintage strap from Janko.

Then I was given a lovely piece by my father-in-law. It had been rattling round in his drawer for 30 odd years!! I've recently had a new crystal put in and sourced a genuine Zenith deployant:

    Then, along came a Speedy...

Then, 2 very recent arrivals from the SC, one a trade from a lovely Precision I had:

My first SOTC - a year on from nowhere...

...And the other, another dressy affair - a Ulysse Nardin hi-beat:

That's it for now! I've a real hankering for a Rolex GMT and maybe a Breitling... I've wanted to test out a lot of things and see what fits, and what doesn't. Any comments welcome!

Lastly, thank you all! Some of you have my money in exchange for a few of the above, a lot of you have given me excellent advice - all of you have been welcoming.

    :o)

Some fantastic pieces there. I especially like the Zenith, and I normally don't go for vintage

I would say that you deserve a glowing end of year report from the WIS head master - gotta be a 10/10 for accumulating that lot. Some very nice pieces there.

That really is an impressive collection after only 1 year! I only hope I can get anywhere near after my first year here.
As a dive watch fan I really like your PO. Also like the look of the Magrette. I would like to try them out (what with them coming from my home town and all) but am a little put of by the whole bronze/brass thing.
    All the best.

    Nice collection.

The Zenith looks in excellent condition, certainly doesn't look a vintage!

Thanks for all the positive comments chaps - I really wouldn't be where I am now with the collection without the support and advice of so many on here.

Seems to be a lot of love for the Zentith - it truly is a keeper, especially as it was given to me, I'm looking to get the case refinished next and I'm still on the lookout for the "perfect" strap for it...

Yep, I understand the UN was once in your posession, I think it likely that the stunning white stap it arrived on might have been of your doing? Unfortunately I am not quite able to pull off that colour, so it's on a vintage brown for now!

It's a 16030 from 1983, it's a lovely dress watch and my first piece on a jubilee, which I really like.

Fabulous collection: and for me it's that Zenith that really stands out. Looking at earlier posts it seems that I'm not alone.

You don't mess around! Love the Heuer, but the Zenith is the stand out watch in your collection IMHO - not least down to the way that it was aquired!

Congrats - here's to next year!

Congrats and thanks for sharing your collection. I think the Heuer is really nice; at first, I thought it was a vintage Zenith.

    Enjoy.

Agreed, I have a GMT high on my hit-list, but wife's rules are that I cannot go over 10 watches, that's what the box fills, and I can have no more...

That means something needs to go!?

The Zenith and PO are both Keepers - no question.

The Speedy is iconic, the Heuer is rare (and a birthyear), the UN is fabulous as a dress watch (and a birthyear), the RAF ties for the CWC are sentimental to me and the Seiko, another birthyear, just keeps going and going!

That leaves the DJ, the Magrette and the Tissot as potential victims...

I love the DJ, and it's what my father in law wears, the Magrette is the only big watch I have, and the vintage strap is fab and the Tissot is the first watch I ever bought.

Decisions, decisions... This is the never ending quandry of a WIS, I guess!
