    £35 for springbars!

Popped into an independent jewellers in Norwich today who say they are an authorised omega service centre.

All i wanted was a pair of spring bars for a 42mm planet ocean. I asked how much they would be and was shocked when the lady came back and said they'd have to order them and it would be £25 from omega, and they'd have to sell them for £35?!?! really?!

So, does anyone know the code for them from cousins or know of anywhere reasonable for them?

    Thanks!

Sounds cheap ... BlancPain-in-the-ass charge £38 for their FF custom screw in bars and you cant get a suitable non-OEM version.

And that price is EACH bar not a pair!!

I don't know for sure but living in Norwich I would say an "independent jewellers" that is an authorised Omega service centre would be Winsor Bishop (this is an educated guess). If it is Winsor Bishop then I find it quite bizzare as I have always had great service from them and in the past, some great discounts and help.

Please do let us know who it was.

If you need some springbars NOW - I probably have some kicking about that you can have gratis - Drop me an email and you can pop round and get them.

    Regards,

    Si

That's strange because Bullen lost their Omega AD status when Goldsmiths / WoS etc amalgamated and Omega started tightening up the AD situation on the High street ( to stop competition mainly).

Windsor Bishop are good guys and well deserve their AD status.

    Si

They are crooks, aren't they? Did you manage to find them somewhere else?

I've been extra careful with mine after hearing you woes!

Anyhting more than a few quid for spring bars has got to be a rip-off. The answer is in our hands. Don't buy.

It is not great to be ripped off by over expensive spring bars. However we should be aware that they are the only thing between our watch and a hard floor. Cheap crap spring bars should also be avoided.

Cheap crap is the same as expensive crap.Spring bars are not space tehnology and as that should not be expensive to replace.Only thing one should look after is to buy spring bars that are easy to take off when replacing the strap or bracelet.
Spring bars that I bought are not cheap crap as you call them, they where just on sale.

"My" watchmaker wanted £20 for regular no brand 22mm spring bars. Got on ebay and got a whole box set for $5 incl shipping and 1/10 is crooked, but they seem to be the same quality as any other springbars I've had. I just change them every now and then just to be sure.

Take it easy. I wasn't suggesting the spring bars you bought were cheap crap. I was just suggesting that not all spring bars are the same, by any means.

Nobody is going to get rich saving money on spring bars. IMO it is very important that they are good.

I got 5 sets of Omega spring bars for $27.30, about £18 or so. They came in a sealed Omega package. Not sure what they charge to ship to the UK so CousinsUK might be better for you.

Are Cousins' single shoulder spring bars the same as shoulderless bars? The pic will suggest that they are, but want to be sure about it.

More than just a little surprised...

to see the name Omega in this subject.
When i read the title i was certain i'd see the words Patek or Rolex in the first sentence.
Cant judge a book by its cover and all that !

Now you've got me. It's a fairly old photo, but I am fairly sure it is a Rolex spring bar.

Gunning for the Rolex position with insane prices, right!

But just keeping it expensive has worked for several watchmakers before.
