We watched Rogue 1 last night. It was a bit messy story-wise but I was really intrigued by the way they digitally recreated Peter Cushing and Carrie Fisher. Vader didn't seem to have the same presence.

I thought Rogue One gave a much better lead-in to Episode IV - A New Hope, than Episode III - Revenge of the Sith did. My view anyway is The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones and RotS were pretty crap. More to give work to Ewan McGregor than to progress the storyline. The CGI for Peter Cushing was stunning. I couldn't work out if it was CGI or unused footage from the original Star Wars like they used in the flight sequences. His body was played by some Holby City actor but the facial CGI was so real. More stories like Rogue One for me.

I also watched Rogue One yesterday and found it much better than the mess of I,II and III.

Quite gritty and read somewhere that Disney wanted a different ending, but test screenings suggested otherwise.

Not sure about the CGI of PC and CF; was a bit obvious, especially the eyes, but what else were they to do.

Saw a 'little gem' of a movie last night called Sing Street - about a bunch of clueless kids from Dublin who start a band, was pretty funny and moderately inspiring.

"Six short stories that explore the extremities of human behavior involving people in distress".

Funny, violent & superbly crafted. Brilliant, highly recommended

I enjoyed it, occasionally the pace was off. But otherwise a good film. Has the graphic novel look and the fight scenes are very realistic.

War Machine (Netflix) with Brad Pitt. He one of the producers as well. Sadly he casted himself for the leading role. But the story, the message and the background for this film gives you something to think about

    Lone survivor

Really good film. Got to me seeing the real pictures of the fallen soldiers at the end. Then the pictures of Marcus the survivor with the bloke that saved his life. Crazy what goes on out there.

We were very disappointed in this. Loved the look of it, but the storytelling was pretty poor. Didn't really grab us.

I put off watching Free Fire in the cinema, watched it the other day, and it was good. No masterpiece, but for a 90 minute gunfight set in a single location it was extremely entertaining. Great cast. One of the lines was "he was misdiagnosed as a child genius and never got over it," which I will be using in the future.

Just caught up with Rogue One and thoroughly enjoyed it. The best Star Wars romp since 1983 and very evocative of the original trilogy.

To counter-act that I also watched Bula Quo as my boy is a massive Quo fan. It was so bad it was almost good.

Saw Charlize Theron today in "Atomic Blonde." I was afraid it would be another "John Swift" type of wall-to-wall mindless action flick, but it turned out to be more like a textured and nuanced Mission Impossible movie where the plot is constantly changing. Theron does her own fantastic action sequences in some LONG single-camera fight scenes that are really impressive!

Excellent movie, with a fun late 1980s sound track to match the last days of the Berlin Wall.

Watched this last week, and it exceeded my exceptions, brilliant action comedy. I even recalled seeing the scene where one of the cars was knocked into the canal in Amsterdam, on youtube last year, I didn't realise at the time which film it was for, but know now

Watched A Dog's Purpose - it was pretty much slagged off by the cynical critics, and it was certainly shamelessly emotional, but I thought it was very good, particularly if you've ever had a dog. More nuanced than a typical Disneyfied story.

My wife was in bits several times, and I must admit to "getting something in my eye" at one point!

Yes that is good too.. Sully is easy viewing, and not too long, only 90 minutes. Currently half price on Amazon video if you are a prime member :)

Saw Annabelle Creation last night. As a horror fan I think I have seen pretty much everything the genre has produced and there was nothing new in here but I thought it was a really good fist at creating and maintaining tension and scares. Maybe ten minutes too long with a couple of "just wrap it up" moments at the end but an enjoyable horror flick overall.
