Hidden Figures. Quite predictable and clearly a feel good film but based on a very good true story and worth the watch.
Watched Swiss Army Man last night. Really surreal and odd movie but strangely beautiful and moving. If you in the mood for something different it's well worth a look!

Hidden Figures. Quite predictable and clearly a feel good film but based on a very good true story and worth the watch.
"Wonder Woman"
Saw it today...excellent! More like 'Indiana Jones/Raiders of the Lost Ark' than the trashy action movies so prevalent the past five years or so.
Rotten Tomatoes rates it Certified Fresh at 93%...both critics and audiences!
Wonder Woman was decent ... Missus was bored and annoyed though, "role model for little girls my a$$" she said :D
Rotten Tomato score definitely way bigger that it deserves, but, it is solid, fun, and what I liked the best, the finale feels deserved and it really resonates with the viewer, not some deus ex machina kind of stuff ...
Best way do described it would be if you imagine some kind of combination of Thor/Captain America: The First Avenger movies, but done way better.
Gal Gadot and Chris Pine have a great chemistry together, and really carry the movie (especially Gal Gadot!)
In the terms of current superhero movies, it is great, definitely one of the better ones to come out in recent years
Lots of flying this month so a few new ones:
Live By Night; Ben Affleck. Good ol' fashioned gangster flick
Boss Baby: Funniest bits were in the trailer... Boring!
Miss Sloane: Excellent political thriller about gun lobbying in Washington DC
Split; james McAvoy. Great thriller!
Legend: Tom Hardy as the Kray twins. Genius and brilliant.
Wonder Woman was OK, it was a bit derivative, but it was all done fairly well..
One of my mates said Gal Gadot's fanny must be sideways because there's no way a woman could be that hot.
I really enjoyed Wonder Woman, probably DC's best effort yet. And honestly her fanny could be inside out and she would still be impossibly hot!!

Watched 13 Hours recently, absolutely superb true story about a group of paid security guys defending a CIA compound in Libya. Just seriously hard/brave men. Well worth a look!

My son and I went to see Guardians of Galaxy 2 at the weekend.
a) I was very impressed with the sound quality - dialogue was crisp and clear.
b) The CGI of a young Kurt Russell was brilliant - he looked better than he did in Escape from New York.
c) interesting plot line - mad as a box of frogs but entertaining
d) excellent use of some 60, 70 and 80's music.
e) the humor from the previous film remained
f) best use of the phase "I am groot" since the previous film.
but most surprisingly - it did not really leave a dry eye in the house at the end - very moving - seriously .
Downside - a bit to long.
Worth a watch (even just for the music which included Mr Blue Sky by ELO and danced to by Groot, Alice Cooper and even Parliament)
Whoever does not know how to hit the nail on the head should be asked not to hit it at all.

After reading this thread just watched 13 hours. An amazing true story and I'd recommend it too.
Felt a bit "Black Hawk Down", so if anyone liked that I'd say this is worth a go.
Hacksaw Ridge , brilliant film and try story too.
Got me tearful

This is definitely not your every day 'Hollywood style' movie, but it made a nice change and had some decent laughs along the way.
Some bits did get a bit silly towards the end in an intended 'slapstick' sort of way, but overall the dry Kiwi sense of humour carried it through nicely.
I would recommend it.

Split.
Creepy atmospheric horror/thriller.
The Mummy. It was fine. Don't believe the reviews. It was no masterpiece, sure, but as a throwaway action movie I enjoyed it just as much as I did Wonder Woman.
Split with James McAvoy was quite good - Although, don't make the mistake I did though if you watch it online, ended up 30 minutes into a bowling romcom.
Saw two movies at weekend
Mummy - total rubbish.... pity as glimpses of good
Pirates of Caribbean - loved it to bits - very surprised I did - some good little adult gags hidden in it too
Blue Ruin
came across this late (its from 2013) superb and strange low budget revenge story. Macon Blair is compelling in this!

marchingontogether!
Ink
another recent discovery (from 2009). great sci fi/ fantasy with a modern twist and filmed on a micro budget, but compelling and seriously weird until you click what's going on.

Alien covenant- bit of a let down

I saw "Megan Leavey" yesterday. It was excellent, but don't know if it's been released in the UK.
Wonder Woman was far and beyond the current super human genre that are considered movies these days.
Short film (20 mins) from Neill Blomkamp:

I enjoyed War Machine
Not belly laugh funny, but has its moments.

Hell or High Water - Starring Ben Foster, Chris Pine & Jeff Bridges.
A very good story/film (8 out of 10), the only down point for me is the Southern/Texan accent is hard to hear.
Miss Sloane, watched it last night and really enjoyed it.
Just watching 'The Belko Experiment ' last man standing bloodbath. Pretty good if that's your thing..
Cheers..

Watched Jawbone last night. Not your usual boxing movie and a little bleak but gripping and really well acted. Well worth a look!

Another +1 for 13 Hours. Watched last night. Fantastic movie.
I watched Split last night.
It was alright. Good performance from Mr McAvoy.
I watched Oklahoma City on Netflix recently. It's an excellent documentary setting the scene behind and leading up to the bombing.
Trainspotting 2 is great but make sure you watch the first one again if you aren't familiar with the story. The narrative ties together.
End of watch (2012), starring Jake Gyllenhall (?), was an absorbing watch.
