After having worn the Carrera it's firmly on my list of wants.
I already own a Mcqueen Monaco I would like to add another Tag chrono to my collection. Being a Heuer & motorsport fan I have deceided on one of these as a modern version of the old Heuer classics.
Ive tried on a carrera & liked it very much & have always admired the vintage Autavia so would like a re-issue but have never tried one on & worried I might not like it on the wrist. Im looking to buy used.

I would go for a carrera but wait for this one

I'd go for a real Autavia if I were you

Sorry but IMO there is no choice here. The re-issue Autavia is one of the very best Tag have done. It didn't sell well and were withdrawn after a short run. This has made the watches comparitively rare and either version command good prices. Be warned though, these watches need care. The cases have a lovely sunburst top case finish which can easily become a train wreck if the owners aren't carefull. The design is different to most Tags and these look really good and a rally strap or a chronissimo.
The dials are slightly off colour, the white Siffert version is more cream and the Black version has a grey tint to it. They both have lovely applied polished markers with detailed minute/second indicies. And they are a great size of 42mm and have a really comfy and slim case. The bracelet is great too, but has the silly double ended screw pins that are a pain to adjust. But a much better choice in my opinion. If you want a Carrera go for the older re-issue that came out around 1999.
Oh and if anyone wants to sell an Autavia Re-issue drop me a pm if the OP doesn't want it.
I agree with Andy. You can get a good one from around £1k
"A man of little significance"
I have the Carrera and love it. Have recently put a dark brown Toshi on it as well which adds bulk - it looks good IMO.
Where? I probably would if they were available from a trusted seller in decent conditionOriginally Posted by Foxy100

Thanks Andy ill keep an eye out.Originally Posted by andy tims
I voted for the Carrera as you already have one very vintage looking watch. The Carrera also looks smarter.
I owned that Carrera and flipped it rather quickly. I found it a very boring watch after a while. The autavia is a lot more exciting and unique. My vote goes to that one.
carrera for me, but opinions are like arseholes, everyone has one! tough decision here.
I have a Carrera and it was my first real watch. Absolutely love it but don't wear it too much as since I have changed jobs I would only hurt it. I have a beater for that! I think the size of the Carrera is just right, it is a good watch to dress up or down and has a touch of class at any point. I know there are many Tag Heuer sceptics on here but the time keeping, build quality and finish are great.
Real or reissue Autavia without hesitation. There's one thing I would be thinking about and that's how often was I planning to wear the watch... I think I would eventually get along better with the Carrera if it were to be an everyday watch, it's a more conventional watch.
I voted for the Autavia. Nice watch!
How about a limited edition Fangio Carrera for the Motorsport connection?
Might even know where there's a secondhand one if you're interested...?
Had to be the autavia for me, much rarer than a carrera
I voted for other.Look at the Carrera CV2014 Not my description but Tag market it as the Hi Octane version of the CV2010.
Has a red sweeping hand and makes the watch look sportier and you will pay the same sort of money.

If only I had the time to be patient
I would go for the Autavia as well, it looks stunning!
Autavia for me as well, and although I do like the look of the Carrera.
carrera gets my vote
Neither owes much to the models whose names they've taken - Autavias should have a rotating, rather than fixed, bezel and no vintage Carrera ever had an external bezel of any sort. And the only Carrera with a 6-9-12 register layout used a Lemania 5100, which is rather different to this model's modified Vj 7750.
I feel the Carrera plays rather too free and easy with the model name, while the Autavia is a more sympathetic update - this style of Carrera was hugely successful for TH (and continues to be so), the Autavia rather less so.
If you don't want to go the vintage route and are set on a Carrera, it's worth considering the models prior to the 7750 range - though the movements aren't any more glamorous, at least the look is truer to the classics. Plus they're not as large as some of the more recent variants (Day Date) have become.
Apologies for the rubbish photo! From l to r: CV2117, CV2115 and CV2111-0. The 3-register versions (also in silver dial and black dial with "Daytona" rings) turn up for sale pretty often.
One of these arrived today ill try & take some decent pictures later :)
The Carrera is beautiful and I voted for that, but I can see most are in the other camp
Voted Other sorry
Autavia of course! Classical and stylish wristwatch.
Like Carrera, love the Autavia....
I had a blue Autavia Re-issue. Lovely watch and interesting bracelet.
I still think the dial one of the best looking out there (regardless of cost) and dare I say it, better than the original.
But not keen on the case shape and as pointed out by another poster, the metal seemed very soft.
And I've always thought of that Carrera as the poor relation to a Speedy, just IMO of course.
Heres a pic guys. One came up for sale & seeing as its so rare deceided to go for it. Has a nice weighty feel to it & the dial & brushed finish are lovely. Not sure about the brown/black oem strap might go for a perforated one if I decide to keep it.
And one with its cousin
Just voted for the Autavia and now see that you have decided - good one, congratulations!
I haven't owned a Heuer yet but several original Autavia pics are in my "wish list" folder on my harddrive... I should add this reissue, for the day I win a lottery with cash prizes.
I had an Autavia re issue on a bracelet and kept it about two days. I now have a carrera day/date which I'll flip soon for an 1887 but the earlier carrera reissues without the bezel are a nicer watch IMO.
Although I like carrera its quite a conventional looking watch & id probably get bored of it. The Autavia is more interesting like the Monaco & still has cues to the original Heuers. The more I wear it the more its growing on me.Originally Posted by Dave+63

another vote for autavia!
Excellent choice sir, looks lovely.
Autavia all the way. The carrera isn't even close to the same league. Just looks like a plain bowl of nothing IMO.
