Great set of pictures and what a result, it looks stunning. What were the costs involved in buying the spare parts needed?

The title gives the pointer; raíses the issue
Is responding to that taboo because it concerns one of the popular guys? Again

Jocke has made a custom job of building a created hype image watch.
Replica, homage, fake or simply personalised depends on perception and there is a multitude of different ones on this subject here.

I think the OT is a refreshingly relativating take on the subject.

Re: If you can't afford it, just build it>>>>

Thank you all for the kind words.

Just to clear things out a bit so will I add:

    I don't sell Rolex parts.
    I don't sell the watch.
I don't do work on watches, only to myself.

And I have made this "Franken" to myself and I have all the original
parts to the GMT so it will be back to normal in a hour if I like. This
watch is build with genuine Rolex parts so it still keep the specs.

So I do this for fun, not for living.

Thank again my friends, I'm happy you like my work and post.

Interesting to note the reaction to this post here - and elsewhere.

Informative post Jocke. Shows just how easy it is - given the right parts and some skill - to convert a watch into something incredibly desirable. Reminds me of the Omega "new build" post that's been running for a few days...

i am not sure why people have come down so hard on Heurtecilla this time. I think he has a valid point. Rolex watches are being converted like this in alarming numbers. I am not suggesting the OP is doing this for profit but many people are. At the end of the day this is not a genuine watch, but for most people it is undistinguishable from something costing 3x as much. If this does not worry you a little i have to ask why?

I only know I love to see these threads, with great skills, great tools and superb photos. I enjoyed it a lot.
I have no idea how some f...rs convert models to something else to fool people and make money.
The only thing I know, thanks to those cheaters out there, some good guys here on the forum starts to argue with each other and at the end a simple WIS like me loosing the fun of reading an originally great post.
Or do I miss the point?

It doesn't worry us because we already know this is happening at an alarming rate and we already know that people then sell them profit. We also already know that Jocke doesn't sell them in this state for profit and thus we don't worry. Simples!

well for a watch forum that usually come down on fakes with a hammer i am surprised at the universal support for this one. Great photos, lovely result. If i was about to make up a fake Explorer 2 i would be inspired!

Yes, I am sure there is an issue re modded Rolex watches - quite clearly it isn't fake - but is is not an original 1655. If anyone was buying a 1655 and didn't have it checked out properly they need their head examined!

I think it is good to show what can be done by/for the enthusiast - however, you try pricing up a bezel, dial, hands etc for a 1655 and I am sure you would not be too far off a well worn 1655, which you could hand in to Rolex for a full refurb - might be a better bet if you don't mind much on originality. Now if I could only find a well battered 1655 on the cheap to send in for the full works ;)
It's just a matter of time...

i think this is a touchy subject, with a certain site offering Rolex sports cases with serial numbers engraved to your spec. to fit Rolex movements, kits to turn datejusts into explorer 1's and subs into red subs etc. It is all to unpleasant for words!

@WingTsun Franken/Fake is there a difference? If this watch is no longer in Jockes hands it is ready to deceive. Just because it has genuine parts, in fact because of this it is in some ways more deceiving than ever?

I really enjoyed that Jocke, thanks for posting. My own view on what you've done is that it's your watch and you can do what you want with it, you're not out to deceive anyone so where's the harm?
