With the nationalistic fervour creeping up on us, let's see if we can identify brands that are made in Britain. To qualify, the assembly of the products have to be conducted in the UK, bonus points if the raw materials are from our fair isles as well.
I'll start:
Shoes, with Loake (1880 range), Barker, Church, Cheaney all made in the UK.

Barbour, but I would expect the cheaper items to be outsourced abroad, just like Loake and many other British makers do.

On the same theme I'd like to add Feather Cycles. I have no connection to them what so ever, but here's a quality little video explaining what they do.

Shutt VR cycle kit. Made in Yorkshire from materials from other British manufacturers:

The great Northampton shoe companies are a good call. Other clothing: Barbour. John Smedley. Sunspel. Harris Tweed. Ann Summers.
Lea & Perrin's. now owned by Heinz, but still manufacture in the UK IIRC. A lot of food is still manufactured (and exported from) the UK. Other British based food manufacturers off the top of me head: Patak's. Weetabix. Baxters. Sharwoods. Ginsters. Duchy Originals.
Engineering & consumer products are bit trickier as parts may or not be made overseas. Moulton & Pashley. Cambridge Audio. Dulux. Qualcast. Dyson. Hotpoint. Armitage Shanks. Speak & Jackson. Aga. Rangemaster.
Being consumer facing with any scale brings pressure on cost which will force many manufacturers to look overseas for production. My own employer is British, and I work with many other British manufacturers like BAe and Cobham- its surprising how many high-end/specialised engineering firms are still based in the UK.
Gieves & Hawkes
Marmite.
"Bite my shiny metal ass."
- Bender Bending Rodríguez
Terra Nova
Best tents in the world. Made in Derbyshire.
Also Brasher Boots
Chris Brasher was a [s:1hmat4hn]grumpy old git[/s:1hmat4hn] great athlete and he makes/made damn fine walking boots
Altberg, best boots you can buy.
Irn-Bru
Belchers lorne sausage
Mortons rolls
Mcghee's Pineapple danish
All the above are produced in the west coast of Scotland, and all four are the staple diet of young Weegies :albino:
Mclaren, Morgan, Bristol cars, Purdy guns, fox umbrellas, yard o led pens
Aston Martin, Lotus, Caterham, Wallis and Gromit, to name but a few off the top of my head.
There are so many great British brands.
Are Brashers still made in the UK? The trail shoes I have were made abroad.Originally Posted by Mjolnir

Sean Connery not a brand :?: Hell, all he ever did after Bond was the same old
It's great when you stop and think about it and remember that there are loads of really, really top notch brands here in Britain. Clothing, alcohol, cars, motorsports, cycling and tons more beside. It's rather heartwarming.

As we're counting goods assembled in Britain, Nissan have one of the most efficient car assembly plants in the Western world in Tyne and Wear. Rolls-Royces are assembled at Goodwood, Minis (sorry, MINIs) in Oxford, some Toyotas in Derby and Hondas in Swindon. Jaguar and Land-Rover churn out some decent cars these days as well. Oh, and Bentley. And not to forget the great British ability to produce some great sports cars in small quantities.
There's still a fair amount of Aerospace engineering here and as already stated, most of the Formula 1 grid comes from these shores. I've lost interest in American single-seater racing, because it's over-politicised and dull, but most of the top level cars were made here - Penske relocated a large part of their manufacturing from the USA to Poole primarily to gain access to the wealth of motorsport expertise here.
We do actually have much to be proud of. Regrettably, too much of our manufacturing has been outsourced to Asia, simply to remain competitive. Dyson is a case in point - truly innovative design and engineering, but the high cost of labour means that it's cheaper to have the goods manufactured in the Far East and shipped half way around the planet. Our economy is increasingly geared to box-shifting.

Ian

Um, "The man who would be King" "Time Bandits" "The Untouchables" "Zardoz"... seems to me that he spent the years after Bond trying not to do Bond.Originally Posted by oldandgrumpy
With the amount of SNP support he's given in the past, I'd hazard a guess thatI also think he would think of himself as a Scottish rather than a British brand if you want to reduce a person to such.
Just an opinion...
Aquascutum went into administration only a few weeks ago and is now run by a Chinese firm. They announced almost immediately that the Corby factory will close.Originally Posted by jonny
