What a great gesture. I will try to submit an entry but doubt I will be up to anything unusual enough. I will be keeping an eye on the thread though, should be some interesting pics!
I passed my 500 mark late last week, but have been away on holiday until now...
As a token of my thanks to you all for providing much advice, information, inspiration, guidance, good will, humour and norks, I would like to offer up the following items by way of a giveaway to mark the passing of my 500th post:
We have first prize - An as new in box, King of the G's, GX-56-4ER in a rather striking orange colour:
Bought new by me, but rarely worn - this isn't a watch you're going to lose in a hurry!
Second prize, 1001 Wristwatches book:
Surely a must for all watch enthusiasts out there, this book has 295 colour pages of watch photos, accompanied by lots of history and supporting information - book came to me via SC and is in as new condition.
Booby prize: Speedmaster sticker:
All good competitions need a Booby prize and this one will have one too - what I judge to be the worst entry will win this large Omega Speedmaster sticker, won by me in a previous giveaway, but as I don't own a Speedy I thought I would pass on the gesture..
To be in with a shout at taking one of these babies home, all I would like to see is a photo of a watch in the most surprising, oddest / strangest or most unusual situation you can come up with.
The quality of the photo is not being judged, camera-phone, point and shoot, DLSR don't matter, it is the circumstance of the photo that I am interested in. This can be your watch in an unusual work situation, sports activity, drama, crisis, out of place, or downright weird situation. Accidental or on purpose, the strangest, most unusual, surprising or amusing pics will take the prizes, with the Booby prize going to the pic that I think most deserving.
There are only a couple of rules:
The photo must be of a watch you own, or have owned and the photo must have been taken by you.
I am the judge and my decision is final.
Entries should be posted into this thread by 8.00pm next Friday 18th May 2012.
There are no post count or length of membership restriction, all entries are welcome.
Multiple entries are fine, post up as may as you like, but there will only be one prize per member.
Keep it clean, please - this is watch talk!
Best of luck!
Rob

Liking the Orange G, and the kind gesture ...
I present.... Cocktail-Time... :D
Nice offer. Can't wait to see some of the pics. Going to get thinking.. I like that orange G.
"Always Excited by A New Arrival"
I want to enter the competition, but I'm worried my slightly NSFW picture will get me banned.
If I link to it instead of posting it, would I be breaking any forum rules?
It's not exactly pornographic, but it's certainly adult in it's content.
Lovely competition prizes and gesture. I have many a photo with me in places sailing with my MIRO on but will have to get creative I think.
My thanks to Henrik and Andy for getting us started!
Anything is worth a try Craig, I was going to do 'watches at work', that'd be interesting...Originally Posted by Craig

Sounds interesting Racer - would love to see them, multiple entries welcome if you want to get creative in the week too!Originally Posted by racer66

Cheers Rob I will have to stick some up do when off nights tomorrow. Browsed what I had on FB, most are me wearing it when sailing Southern Ocean from NZ to Uruguay via cape horn, or some Help for Heroes charity racing I did with Vauxhall and some BTCC guys :)Originally Posted by AIDM
Thanks to those who have shown an interest so far, anyone else up for having a go? I have tried to make this as inclusive as possible, any pic of one of your watches in an interesting situation will be in with a shot. :)
Here's one from my holiday - a PRS22 with a friendly cow!
Watches on holiday, at work, at play, at a sporting event... anything other than the usual desk shots?
I know its early doors, but would be good to see a couple more entries.
Regards,
Rob

As far as the photo is concerned I couldn't resist it when my cat brought the frog (real one!) home. She is a real hunter but doesn't kill she just brings them home as presents for us!
Perhaps I should train her to find and fetch watches!
Here she is as one of two black and white beauties.
Also here is a photo which describes most members on here!

Nice gesture :)
Superb gesture - Here's an unusual WIS shot...
Why unusual ?... Because its on my wrist. ;)
Like many a WIS I justified the 'dress watch' bought it, & never (hardly) wore it.
So, in that sense it is an 'unusual setting' for my dress watch in that it's not in the box :)

Time check.
OK sod it I'm going to post my slightly risque entry.
I'll link to my photobucket, and hopefully between that and the clear warning I won't get in trouble.
You know how people often post pictures of their watches alongside knives, tools, cigar boxes or other suitably masculine props? Well this is what I had to hand:

Shame more people didn't get involved. Love the frog one and the NSFW one! My crappy effort, just to join in for the fun of it.
Awesome gesture...
Anyway, at the risk of appearing (proving myself) to be a plank, I present....
Image 1 - "Muff Diver"
OK, it's a neck warmer
Image 2 - "Bog snorkeller"
Yes, I did drop it down there. Yes, it was clean. And yes, it was disinfected before wearing again.
What's that I hear? Yes, I am a plank.
My entry is a pile of pants....
Great gesture, and love the orange G so as I'm off work tomorrow and at a loose end I'll be trying to come up with something before the deadline.......
Love bog snorkeller.
Thanks for all the entries so far, there's some great ones!
Less than 24hrs to go now if you would like to enter! :) It's going to be a tough choice, but still all to play for...
Best regards,
Rob
Pretty pathetic attempt, but......."an arresting little tag" or "send in the tag (Tactical Aid Group)" :D
Or how about a "Seiko Helmet".....technically not that accurate, but its different.
The orange would complement my kayak nicely
I bought the watch here in SC.
It now adorns my first Grandson's wrist. Taken in hospital at 1 day old - I give you The World's Youngest WIS :)
Best Regards - Peter
I'd hate to be with you when you're on your own.
Good luck everybody. Have a good one.
Good luck everybody. Have a good one.
Huge thanks to all who made the effort to take part - thanks Chaps. :)
You are all winners in my eyes, ( ), but there has to be a proper winner and the ORANGE G-Shock goes to the pic in what has to be the most unusual circumstance ever and probably a unique photo, it made me chuckle and is, of course...
Well done Rich, rather you than me fishing that out! :lol:Originally Posted by RichS
The 1001 Watches book goes to the pic that couldn't be posted, (http://i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p58 ... to13-1.jpg in case you missed it!) again, pretty unusual and, er, fairly unique - made me feel slightly inadequate!
Congrats to Seikokiller on lots of levels!
I thought long and hard about the booby prize, nothing really qualified, although Villages 'pants' shot was a contender the sticker was kindly presented to me by Village previously from his giveaway, I guessed he didn't want it back!
So - and absolutely no offence intended - the sticker goes to Zelig for his Oris wrist shot:

Thanks again to all who took part, if the winners can PM me addresses I will get the prizes in the post on Monday!
Kind regards to all,
Rob
Well done, Rob - nice selection and very nice pictures from the winners :)
Great gesture, my friend...
Yay!
A worthy winner with the bog snorkling. That was my favourite.
Great gesture. I'm extremely grateful.
Superb gesture - looking forward to my booby prize :D

I've exchanged some pm's with Rob and just want to echo what others have said...a great gesture and very generous.
Thanks Rob.
Rich
Great gesture and a worthy winner too...the bog snorkler made me properly smile..... :D
Must remember to NEVER buy a watch off Rich
Well done to the runners up too
Well done Rob, and worthy winners. Great gesture and a great idea for a comp. :)
Just wonder if Rich is actually going to put his hand into the khazi to recover the incredible bog snorkeler
Best Regards - Peter
I'd hate to be with you when you're on your own.
Well done Rob, great little competition, and some deserving winners :)
Apologies for the post resurrection, but wanted to close the circle by saying thanks to Rob following my receiving the G shock. In a pm, Rob said its quite big and orange. On opening the tin, two words came out involuntarily as my mouth said to my brain "it's alright, I'll take it from here". F*****g hell!!! It's enormous. In mint condition as well. Thanks again Rob. And thanks also to the others who took part- there were some really good photos.
I think it may have found its spiritual home.
