I went for the sub. I prefer it to the Omegas and I find it sits better on my wrist than the SD.
Just as the question asks, reason for doing this is basically to see what the forum see as the best diver / desk diver from the list.. :mrgreen:

I've picked the SD because there are less of them.

THIN is the new BLACK
I voted Sub: for me the definition of a quality diver that you can wear every day.
Can't find the 2254 so no vote :)
14060M all the way
Sea-Dweller. No brainer. Much less SDs, perfect amount of bulk, no annoying and distracting cyclops.

So true and +1 for the sub.Originally Posted by learningtofly

All the best - Neil
I also went for the SD. Really like the bulky design, to me it looks a bit more toolish than a Sub.
If money were no object, I would say SD as in my opinion it's the finest choice mentioned. But money is an object, it's a big consideration for all but the most fortunate, which is why I voted Planet Ocean. It's really not far behind the SD overall, but available for considerably less money.
2254 no contest :D
Having worn all four as daily wearers. It's the SD for me. And what's on my wrist as i type this. :D
The subs gonna win this one, whether it deserves it or not, no question - this is as near as it will get to a home crowd.
Personally though, the sub turned out to be a great disappointment to me. Mainly the cyclops to blame for that, but also just something about the general feel of the thing. So I got rid. Job done!
My PO does me just fine at the moment for a daily wearer and I feel like I got myself more for my money - not that that was my motive. The display back on the new model, however, doesnt do it any favours I feel.
The SD's a bit special though. It just seems to deliver everywhere the sub falls short (except perhaps bracelet - but I forgive it!) No bloody cyclops shouting "Im a rollie!!!", but still has a date window. Such an impressive WR without being much bigger than a sub. Before it was retired it just came across as the best diver rolex could make - not just a safe bet they knew would sell.
2254.50 gets my vote. Mainly because it's the only watch I own!
Toughy that one.
Worn my PO all week and I absolutely love it, makes subs look so girley.
Having said this out for a good hike today and first immediate grab was my 14060 on a NATO, I would not have dreamed on putting the PO on.
Time will tell, but they are both great watches and I don't think you can split them. IMO.

This is just going to be about personal preference, all are equally capable for diving. There is no doubt that the Rolexes are more prestigious so the result is a foregone conclusion.
Personally, I have both the Seamaster Bond and a Rolex Submariner 14060M and, although I don't dive wear the Seamaster for swimming and holidays. It's just got a lower profile than the Rolex.
Sea-Dweller. Why - twice the WR of the next WR watch there - automatic HEV, rather than the Omega manual and in its day it was the top of the range dive watch in the Rolex line-up. Take your time and get the bracelet sized right and it is comfortable. Plus, as said above it it rarer - in fact I would say it is the rarest watch of the choices by a long way, despite it relatively long production run.
The SMP bond is probably the most comfortable watch to wear imo - but no micro adjustment on teh clasp unlike the Rolex models, so some will not be able to get a perfect fit, even with the half links.
It's just a matter of time...
I had to vote SMP - I have 6 of those and only one Submariner, clearly showing my preference. Not sure I would want to argue they are better watches, just better suited to me and my tastes.
One thing the SMP does seem to offer over the others is more size, colour, function choices than the others.

If by 'Sub' you mean the 14060m, then that would have my vote. If not, then I'd have to pick the PO
Lets look at that value for money ratio in 5 years ;)Originally Posted by And
It could well work out similar value to buying a fiat family car or a BMW 5 series :twisted: only with the 5 series actually appreciating in value.

OP is asking best diver, SD wins, and as for the PO, I dare you to find someone who uses it professionally and has NOT had it leak :D
Well, if you know 100 or so wearers, we might have something vaguely resembling a statistic emerging here! If not, well... damp squib. Also, the OP said daily diver/desk diver.Originally Posted by seadog1408

Ford... you're turning into a penguin. Stop it. HHGTTG
Interesting turn out, although the sub is winning, for me it's a watch which is seen quite often, and is (like the SMP) quite a common none WIS watch. Would it be fsir to say that the sea dweller is the more WIS watch of lot?...
Had an SMP for 5 years, as a daily wearer - bracelet popped open on occasion and the bezel was impossible to turn if wet. Makes it useless as a dive watch IMHO. Neither problem with any Rolex I've owned, had a large size PO which was nice but never really grew that fond of it.
The SMP bezel definitely has a nack to it when wet, but surely that's a good thing? You wouldn't want to shift it by accident. I used to take my 2531 diving with me and never had a problem using it as a secondary device for timing dives.Originally Posted by RobDad

The GS is WR200, screw down crown, quick set hour, 10 secs./year tc, better finished and FÁR more connaisseur personal pleasure :bounce:
As a bonus that unbeknown makes less desired = cheaper. That is not counting service :wink:
Adds up to rather an ok higher end watch for daily use.
I really do like the grand seiko range. But I find the divers are a little on the wide side for me, for example the spring drive diver or SBGA0028 is quite big, at 44mm wide. But if it was 42mm then that would definitely be in the poll, as it's an ultimate WIS kind of watch, not very common and a very accurate movement..
However although the sub is performing best in the poll, the comments and thoughts on the SD are very persuading, :mrgreen: along with that the idea of it being a rarer watch, and less common have a big impact on my opinion.
SD, the perfect all rounder for every ocassion and all that life throws at you.
Dont look back, youre not heading that way.
Itīs 38 and as it has no rotating bezel taking up the outer diameter where most of the surface is, the face is VERY legible.Originally Posted by dougjim8

I find the SMP bezel fairly hard to turn in all circumstances. If it turns, it turns smoothly, but the grip is pretty limited on this one.Originally Posted by RobDad
I went for PO, mainly because I own one and im very happy with it. My next watch though is most likely one of the 2 rolex (still trying to decide which I like better), so in a couple of months I might vote differently....
Sub for me

I have a 16610 and a PO 8500 - they are both fantastic and while the PO is my new watch, the Sub is the one that endures and will endure. Vote to the Sub as it covers all eventualities.

I have a Ceramic sub and a PO .Both are great watches and I guess it just comes doen to preference.
It's a matter of personal preference.
Had a 2254.50 SMP and 2531.80 Bond as well as a 14060M.
Those are gone and am wearing an IWC Aquatimer Chronograpgh 3767-02 presently.
I like strawberries but I also like raspberries. Which is better? Surely just personal preference.
My vote goes to the Sub as well
* ''perfect'' 40mm size (IMHO)
* bomb proof movement
* looks amazing
