Regulator watches - experiences & suggestions please

Never tried a regulator watch and I'm wondering about people's experiences with these.

I like variety in my collection, so I'm looking around for one - some pieces by Oris have especially intrigued me. Any specific ideas/suggestions would be appreciated :)

I have the 44mm Oris Meistertaucher 1000. Good looking piece IMO and very very comfortable being Ti. Also wear smaller than the dimensions suggest due to the curved lugs but still has real presence.

This is my second and is the earlier style with the plain dial which for me is the better design. Later ones had the wave pattern on the dial which adds a bit of clutter and are not as sought after.

Took me all of a few minutes to get a hang of reading the time without a second glance so no problems there. Real conversation starter in my experience and a stand out diver against some of the usual drab designs.

Mine is currently away having a service and full refurb but should be due back any week now. Cost of the actual service with Oris was reasonable at £100 plus VAT.

S/H prices appear to vary. The first one I had was mint and struggled to sell here on SC for £650 with the full dive kit, boxes, manuals etc. A few months after the same watch was changing hands for £850. The new one I sourced here was cheaper <£600 with the full kit but it needed parts replaceing (crystal, crown, bezel amongst other things) and will owe me in the region of £1k once it is back.

The 49mm ones look nice in the black/ orange combo but tbh I've never followed up any interest in those as they would be far too big.

I love my one, little tricky to read at the start. But when
you find out how it works it's a great complication.

Here is some facts about it.

^Thanks for the info guys, much appreciated. I'm not interested in the 49mm ones either. Good to hear that Oris are reasonable in their service prices

Very nice touch having the 'Regulator' and the strap stitching in red Jocke :drunken:

    What is ´a regulator watch´???

Wis (marketing) jargon for a watch with a caliber fitted with micro regulator? or something with subdial layout? or anything with 60 seconds as the main scale?
    Where does it come from?

That watch is sensational. Never heard about Dornblüth before, just googled them and found they are doing very nice watches - catalogue just ordered.

This was mine, it's an oris modern classic regulator from the 90s. I really liked it and it was easy to read once you got the hang of it.
Not seen many about before but I prefer them to the divers variants.
    Sorry about the big pic.

That is beautiful as is the Dornbluth earlier in the thread. I'd never really been that interested in regulators before. Why oh why did I look at this thread - it could be painful to the wallet...

I can second that, one of my friend has an Alpina regulator, I got to try it on and it looks great. The rubber strap was one of the most comfortable i have come across.
I think the movement may be in house (so my mate claimed), i find it hard to believe given the price of the watch, so don't quote me on this!

Nice 8) - I like that everything has it's own dial. Is that centre seconds or minutes?

Does anyone else make watches with a similar one-hand-per-dial layout? Excluding those with only one hand in total.

Another vote for Alpina, good quality, as before-super comfortable strap, extreme is 47mm

    Great casual watch:

Cheap and cheerful Aeromatic - quartz Miyota chrono movement. I like it and it makes a bit of a change...

    That PP is gorgeous.

This Patek branded for Tiffany´s has roman numeral for the hour sub dial and arabic numerals for the seconds sub dial.
It is as clean as a regulator puzzle comes.

I love the look of regulators but they all tend to be too big for me - does anyone know of a nice at around 40mm (that isn't made by Patek Philippe!)?

these watches look very elegant - but at a glance i dont intuitively know what the time the watch has. I wonder if they take long to get used to?
