Of the 4 I'd say the LV and SD are most similar. Given you can put a black bezel on the LV and make it even closer to the SD. for max variety I'd ditch the SD.
I've ended up with another collection dilemma. This is a very nice dilemma of course, and one I feel privileged to be stuck in :-D However, it is still a dilemma!
Here's my current in-use collection...
Until recently, it was just the green LV Submariner and the Sea-Dweller but since then I've added the Daytona and a GMTc. The GMTc wasn't really a planned purchase but it's the one that's thrown everything out of sync as I never expected it to be such a great watch. It was actually the first Rolex I properly considered buying... as soon as I turned the bezel on the display model, I knew I'd have to have one at some point in my life.
Then, as time went on, I ended up with couple of Ceramic Submariners. These were really nice but they never seemed to fit quite right and the blue lume was always something I struggled to get used to.
So I bought the GMTc thinking "it's just a different variation of a SubC so I'll probably not get on withit...". Well how wrong I was! It's a lot slimmer on my wrist (in terms of height) so it sits more flush. The bezel moves as smoothly as I remembered and to top it off, I was surprised when I saw the lume is green!
It's definitely a very usable everyday watch. Another off-putting thing was the 24 hour bezel. Like most people, I use the bezel to time car parking and cooking rather than what it's supposed to be used for. However because it only clicks 24 times, it's very easy to work out that each main number is 5 mins along from the next and timing is very easy.
So with me loving the Daytona as my new dress watch, and me thinking I'd prefer 3 rather than 4 watches, I'm stuck with which to shift... the LV, GMTc or SD. I just can't decide.
Of the 4 I'd say the LV and SD are most similar. Given you can put a black bezel on the LV and make it even closer to the SD. for max variety I'd ditch the SD.
It's sacrilege to put a black bezel on an LV Cliff... I just couldn't do it :DOriginally Posted by cmcm3
Why not get something else instead. Five is a nice number
Its a good pont Cliff regards the insert for the LV but for me i d let the Gmtc go and keep the others
Agreed, but it's the most sensible logic if you want/need to find a reason to ditch one! :wink:Originally Posted by W44NNE
That's a very nice collection, the bi metal Daytona looks great. I'd agree out the four the LV and SD look similar but I would keep all four... Hell maybe even up the collection five is better than four, then again six is better than five and seven is perfect one for each day of the week :D

If I absolutely, 100%, totally had to sell one of these, it would probably be the LV.
But whichever it is I'm thinking you'll end up buying another in the future. So why bother really? :D

Of course there is Tony, they look so similar. Not getting into an argument over a watch though lol. Entitled to our own views ;)Originally Posted by learningtofly
I agree, difficult indeed, I couldn't decide out of those three :)
Since I'm not a bi-color fan, I'd shift the Daytona, but this doesn't solve your problem.........
Daddel.
Got a new watch, divers watch it is, had to drown the bastard to get it!
These threads are always a "problem"
The OP seeks suggestions, but will disagree with most of them.
Of the 4 watches I like the SD best, so if I wasn't replacing it with a rarer SD, it would be the last one I'd let go.

So I should agree with every singe view and then have even more of a dilemma? It's a discussion at the end of the day and I appreciate all the views :|Originally Posted by andy tims

Sell the SD. Pointless watch.
Sorry Wayne.........I'd have to agree with Tony here, the Longine is no where near the same watch as the JLC.......However lets not get away from your question/dilema............well for me it would have to be the Daytona, not keen on two tones for a start and the lack of date has always made me struggle with daytona's.....and i've tried 3 times. However, as we have discussed before, trade me the GMTc, a watch you didn't think you'd like and try a Tudor Heritage and be surprised again !, I know a decent fella with one he'd trade too !!! :DOriginally Posted by learningtofly
Dietcokeman... I'm just not a JLC fan at all other than the Navy Seals models.
I'd get rid of the Daytona...
Nice collection. My least favourite is the Daytona (don't like TT, nor chronographs). So that's the one I'd sell. The last one I'd sell would be the SD.
I think the GMTc is the new era and has the nicest bracelet and updated movement of the four.
The Daytona is a chronograph and your only two tone.
the SD is a great watch with poor clasp and a pointless depth rating.
The LV is a special edition with the preferable maxi dial that can be colour changed is you so wish in the future.
So to me, its looking like its the SD that's got to go.
Well it's all a matter of personal taste and we're all different, but if it were my dilemma I'd view it as:
Swap the TT Daytona and replace with a SS version - effortlessly cool and TT / Gold bracelets don't do it for me.
Keep the LV but purchase a black insert AND bezel to allow easy changeovers for a different look.
Keep the GMT2c because .... well it just looks great doesn't it?!
Ditch the SD if you really want to get down to three, as the LV would look the business but with a black insert / bezel switch it looks better than an SD.
The if it were me I'd add a cheeky little fouth one to the collection - a true dress watch, anything from a Tissot Visodate to 40mm JLC etc but in gold on a leather strap.
Sell them all = dilemma removal
Easy really, lose the SD, then you'll have three watches with different bezels and therefore different looks.
I have a SS Daytona, GMT IIC, 16610 LV and the real dilemma for me would be getting shot of one of those :?
wow what a dilemma indeed, one I will never have.
Would have to loose the SD if it was me... A bit large, the depth rating doesn't make sense in my life as I live it today, and the Sub and GMT are just nicer... Never been much into the Daytona, but I can see its justification in your collection as it is...
Only problem I have with the LV is that it is not in my collection :D
my few cents.... unless you really need the cash. Keep 'em. They will appreciate faster than the cash will.
If you had to lose one i'd sell the Daytona and buy it in 18ct [as you say its your dress watch]
Out of those 3 - I would shift the LV.Originally Posted by W44NNE

Really difficult, as they're all great watches.
The nearest you've got to duplication is the SD and the LV, but they're both special in their own way. I would sway towards keeping the SD and letting the LV go.
Listen to uncle andy, sage advice there....Originally Posted by andy tims
