    TISSOT restoration by walkerwek1958

As part of another deal we did Paul (walkerwek1958) agreed to have a look at an old Tissot seastar i had in the scrap box, dirty, scratched, not working, full of god knows what, badly damaged crystal, dirty dial...need i go on? sadly neither of us thought to take "before" pics, but rest assured it was FUBB - i think it turned into a personal mission for Paul to save it!

This is what after several trials, tribulations, and fun sourcing parts, came back to me.
I was so amazed i almost choked up.
Thanks paul, good luck on your new watch repairing adventure - you are now certainly my go to guy!!!!

    Pauls summary of work done:
    > Here's a breakdown:
    >
    > Work carried out: Complete stripdown, clean and relubricate movement.
    > Supply and fit replacement balance, pallet lever and mainspring. Case
    > completely repolished to remove extensive scratching and restore original
    > polished finish. New case gasket and glass fitted. Hands and dial cleaned,
    > hands relumed.
    > New crown, stem, glass, case gasket + carriage
    > New balance and pallet lever
    > New mainspring

here pauls pics which are better than mine and show the movement.

    [/quote]

and here are a few i've taken after strapping up and wearing...

my very sincere thanks to Paul and i can't recommend him highly enough!!!! :headbang: :hello1:

Fantastic job and I honestly wish I could get in to the servicing side of things but the time required simply isn't available :( .

Great work by Paul and you quite rightly are over the moon with a great transformation, from shed to stunner :)

Great to see more and more members getting stuck in with mods and repairs

Now if you only had a vintage purple lined Tissot box to go with that...
    Great stuff :)

Cracking job Paul! The full repertoire too, what with case polishing, dial cleaning and reluming, I'm impressed. I can just about strip, clean and lubricate a movement at the moment. :?
I did remove, clean and lube my first mainspring last week though. :)
I really ought to do a couple of the BHI courses. One of these days....!

But did you manage to get it back into the watch

I now own a set of sprinwinders but even with these it can be tricky.

I`d recommend the BHI Basic Mechanical Watch course, which is 5 days residential and costs around £550 plus BHI membership for the year (£98). Throw in the cost of travel and evening meals (and beer) and it's around £800. Treat it like a holiday and it's good value.

That could be a little difficult as the thread was started nearly 4-years ago.

I pointed him at this thread as an example of pauls work, sadly neither he or i took before pics at the time as we didn't expect it to be this nice under all the crud! I should never have sold it though!
