Completely shafted my back shaving (my face) this morning
My daughter got her 11+ results today. She passed comfortably. Pleased for her as the grammar school was entirely her choice, no pushy parenting here.
For as long as I can remember I've always had hard toothbrushes. SWMBO bought me a replacement and by mistake picked a soft brush.
I rather like it.

I told my colleagues I didn’t want any of their sweets and no matter how much I begged not to let me have any.
Today I found myself in the room with no colleagues and helped myself to about ten of them.
Kids and grown ups love it so but I can’t resist them in any way, shape or form and feel pathetic about it.

Congratulations to you and your daughter! We found out last week that our son also passed i.e. cleared the level set by the school's governors. However, very unlikely that he will get in because the competition at that school is so fierce they can only take the top few percent of those that pass. I doubt his score is that high, looking at previous years' in-takes. Still happy he got this far.
That’s pretty tough. We know my daughter is one of 182 girls passing for 160 places, out of about 310 who took the test. The ratios are not too bad. The school is South Wilts grammar in Salisbury which my daughter chose herself as her babysitter and a few other older girls she looks up to go there. They make offers usually out to 20 miles away. We are 19 miles out so still not guaranteed, although every child in our village who has ever passed has been offered a place.
In our case it is Queen Elizabeth's Boys School in Barnet. They don't care about catchments, hence the tough competition. More than 2,000 boys sat the test, most of them having prepared for it the last 1-2 years. My son is one of around 700+ that would have passed (looking at previous years). They pick the very top 180 only!
I hope you get the result you are hoping for. Unless the system has changed in the last 15 years, don't give up hope if your son isn't in the top 180. As the private school results come in, a reasonable number of the 180 will drop out and the school offer the place to the next on the list.
Ah, one of the “super-selective” grammars. Best of luck, I hope it works out. I now know my daughter came about 80th out of 310 who sat the exam which is not bad. She will get a shock though when she starts and is no longer the brightest girl in the class as she is now at her small state primary!
It seems to me that the question one must ask is: What is likely to be the best strategy for personal success? ;-)
Creating a workplace where merit genuinely brings rewards (rather than being skilled at getting rewards being what brings rewards) is not easy when you have people whose only skill is obtaining reward/promotion attempting to game the system in their favour.
Mark, the skill you are referring to is one I have yet to learn. Perhaps I will get there one day.
Just about to tuck into (yes yes I know, it was a busy day) salt fish and ackee... Yum!

I just got my DNA test results back and I'm
37% Irish
35% western European
13% Scandinavian
8% British
2% Iberian peninsula
3% south Asia.
2% greek
I find this very interesting as had no idea about the Irish element.
Thanks ma 😂
Probably. My art has always been reminiscent of cave painting in the dark.
Feel rather stupid but just in case, it’s not possible to plug a hole in the high pressure pipe of a pressure washer with your thumb without ripping a hole in your thumb, ouch!
After 14 hours travelling (so far) sharing an airport transfer bus with a large group of top-drawer Russian hookers is quite a surreal experience.

What is the best way to eat a kiwi fruit? I'm sick of fiddling around trying to eat them with a spoon so have started eating them with the skin on.

Melon baller mixed with something else.
It's a thought, but they don't last as long and would make a mess of my work bag when I take one for my break time!

I think when MrsO said she was coping looking after 3 of the kids on her own she may not be telling me the full truth . This is how they went to school today !
Lolls like they've just read the Brexit thread!
Agreed. Far less mess too.

I just experienced the deep joy of successfully smuggling an old one pound coin past a cashier at the Co-Op.
Storm Brian has arrived, and it's hissing down with rain, with 40mph winds.
There's a bloke outside on the sea wall fishing.
How bad does your life have to be to decide that going fishing in the teeth of Storm Brian is better than not going fishing in the teeth of Storm Brian?

I'm awaiting the delivery of a roomba.
Wonder if this is going to be the first step towards Skynet.
I can't quite see that myself. however, perhaps you'd be better off sending it back and buying a book on Prepping instead?
Don't switch it on or it'll run and hide under the sofa and then you'll be stuck with it. A life filled with eerie late night encounters with the machine as it wanders around your home stealing things you've dropped.
I've discovered that I don't understand the difference between zumba and roomba.
In the Sotadic Zone, apparently.
Neither have anything to do with Pom-Bär or Doom Bar, I presume. I've had the misfortune to try both.
