I realised the other day that it is now well over a year since I wore my PAM 185.I got it out last time I was changing watches over and I do still really love it but dont seem to feel the urge to wear it.
Is this a signal that the time has come to get rid?I have no particular urge to rush out and buy any other watch at the moment so its not like I would reinvest the money in something else if I sold it.
Do others have watches that they dont wear for very long periods of time??

Part of the appeal of collecting watches, for me, is to wear them regularly. I normally have a couple of regular work favourites, then out of work I put on whatever takes my fancy - so all my watches get a look-in. Normally the "new kid" gets preferential attention, but it's rare that I don't wear a watch at all for more than a few weeks.
If you haven't worn your PAM for a year, I guess you do have to question why you have it. However some people like to accumulate a collection without wishing to wear them - and who's to knock it.
I've never had a watch that has not entered in to a regular rotation (quite often a couple of watch changes a day if I am honest :D ).
I've had watches that I knew would lose their appeal sooner or later or perhaps were not part of the grand plan (if such a thing exists) and have been shifted on.
I say, have a think about if there is a watch that you want that you will wear regularly. Then consider losing the Pam. But don't rush into things, just try and be considered.
I'd say sell it - I have a number of watches I have either never worn, or never wear any more - about 50% of them I should just list and sell and may well have a cull in February next year - but I find putting for sale ads together a real PITA, so usually put it off.
It's just a matter of time...
I wear the Speedmaster i have the Most , but i still dont get rid of any :P

I had the crown repaired about 5 times on its final 5th time i got rid of it.
I've got a Sub LV that hasn't been getting worn much lately, but each time I make an advert to sell it something stops me.
I should just press the '"submit" button & be done with it!

I've only have a small collection at present, but I don't go more than two weeks without wearing them at some stage, so I would say it's time for a change.
Is there something you have been looking at that might tempt you?
I have a few that I don't seem to wear much, but I also enjoy just getting them out and trying them on.
Thing is if you sell, and you've not really got your eye on anything else, the money will just get spent on other (non-watch) things.
If you still love it, then keep it.
Good chance you will suddenly get an urge to wear it again, and if it's gone it's gone.

If you need, or would like, the money for something else, sell it. If not, keep it.
I don't wear some watches for months and enjoy "owning" them again when they get a go.

Id be tempted to keep it as it will only appreciate in value or what about swapping it for a different PAM?
I had about three mid-range watches (Longines, Omega) that I realised I wasn't wearing. They were great watches and I did like owning them but when it hit the 6-month limit of not wearing I decided to sell them. I ended up consolidating them into one watch that I now reglarly wear. No regrets. So, I reckon sell!
I have quite a few that I don't wear (and some that I never have...). I have overspent very recently so may well sell a couple (not at the price level of a Panerai), but I'd have kept them all without question if I hadn't overspent.
This is probably illogical, but where's the logic in having more than a dress watch, dive watch and a G-Shock to set them by anyway? :lol:

I very rarely wear my Ball Moonlight Special - I really should as it is a beautiful watch but my 2 Panerais and Breitling get all the attention now. The other problem is my winder has stopped working and re-setting this watch is a real faff, to say the least!!

Personally, if I'm not wearing it then it gets sold. Mind you, that's because I buy them to wear them mainly. If you still get a happy feeling from owning it without wearing it, or are collecting without necessarily wearing, then you may as well hold on to it.

If it's because you are keeping it for "special" then you need to get out more it seems,
If it's because you are worried about wearing it, then you probably need to ask, why?
If it's because you have something you like more then, and you don't think you'll get the the PAM love back, then it's time to change
If you're asking us, I guess the answer is always to move it on, gives one of us a chance to decide if we like it,
BUT,
if you can't bear to think of your once loved watch getting passed around here until it finds someone who will look after it, then you need to keep it ;)
There's a difference between collectors and wearers. Both have a place. Decide which one you are and conduct yourself accordingly.
The question you should ask yourself is, are you going to replace it with something you will wear?

Not seen that often the old 185. White gold and GMT and in a 42mm package.
I have a number that I never wear and would have no hesitation in selling them. One day I will reach the post count and they will be on SC - in about 8 years at the current rate :)

I do tend to wear a watch for a matter of weeks/months then swap over as I feel-its unusual I go this long without wearing one of them.Although I have not wore it recently then i dont think I could sell it unless there was another watch I liked better to take its place.
I must be happy with my collection at the moment!

Yes! Time to get rid, if you don't wear it something is wrong.
Once you start thinking about selling a watch, it's gone. Not necessarily now, but it'll be gone in the not too distant future as the idea doesn't just go away.
wholeheartedly agree! ive had plenty of watches that i swore id never sell, then a day,a month or a year later i see something else that i MUST have then its gone. if i start to consider selling a watch sooner or later it goes!

I had a Dornblüth 99.1 that stayed in the box for a long time. I agonized about selling it but now that it's gone I don't really miss it.
And now it's hunting time for a new watch.
