    Michael Kors watches

    Hi All,

Hoping for a bit of advice really. The o/h likes Michael Kors watches. She already has a Longines Dolce Vita for smart / formal wear, but fancies something she can wear casually / in the day.

I just can't understand why they're so expensive, for what is on the whole, a plastic quartz watch. I obviously get the fact that 90% of the price is the name, but I'd rather spend the £150/200 on something a bit 'better' (I appreciate 'better' is entirely subjective) - I can get a Seiko SKX for a nudge over £100, and whilst I understand that's a men's watch, it's a significantly better investment than the Michael Kors watch will ever be.

Any suggestions of alternatives / other watches that you've bought your o/h's around the £200 mark would be massively helpful!

    Thanks in advance!

    Oli

It's a fashion watch with the likes of DKNY, Emporio Armani and so on.
Get a proper watch with a real history - A Stowa fliegeur thats affordable?

    That's a men's watch though.

I'm after a decent women's watch around the £200 mark...

Just buy her what she likes and avoid the cold stare on christmas morning... that'd be my advice.

I had to buy a Calvin Klein last year after trying and failing to get something Swiss on her wrist.
Just about managed it, even with the sales girl chatting on about what a reliable watch CK are, with a 'very high end movement'.

A couple of my local shops (goldsmiths I think) have Bulova at similar prices and styles to the Michael Kors stuff - might be worth a look.

A Citizen Eco-drive of some sort might fit the bill.

My wife wanted and got this. Although I am by no means an advocate of 'fashion' brands, this is a beautiful, hefty piece for women who like larger watches...in a lovely hue of rose gold. Comes in at about 250 IIRC...and no plastic in it!

Have a look at Christopher Ward, the brand divides opinions in here but their ladies range looks nice.

I bought my fiancee this last Christmas as she adores anything purple (cue knob gags) she loves the watch, wears it every day and is always telling me how nice it is. Get her what she likes and enjoy the happiness it will (should) bring her.

    yep.
take a deep breath and get the kors.

ultimately, we (the female lot) want what we want because we like it so dont bother fobbing us off with some sh*t that you in your infinite wisdom think would be better because youre not going to get thanked for it.

particularly not if its a seiko. :D :D :blackeye:

Blimey that purple chrono is really nice .. I wouldn't wear it myself but lovely on a girl's wrist, I imagine. Stunning.

I think they're made by Fossil. My better half has two and she loves them both and to be fair they seem to be lasting pretty well.

I've only ever bought two watches for the wife and one was a small size Seiko 5 auto. She loved the history behind it, that the word Seiko can mean (I recited the wikipedia page) "exquisite," "minute," or "success" blah blah blah and wears it almost constantly. However I was pretty confident i could get away with it- if you know your other half is going to like it, buy it and STFU at unwrapping time.

    Re: Michael Kors watches

The cold hard truth is that if you buy her what YOU like, or appreciate, YOUR life will be miserable as well as her Christmas. Bite the bullet and buy her what she wants. It is Christmas after all :)

    Good advice there. :thumbright:

I took a flier earlier this year and got the missus a vintage Certina New Art auto which went down well but generally I'd say not to try and impose our WIS geekiness on the other half.

    BTW who is Michael Kors?

My Wife wants exactly the same one  I am having the same trouble as you scarto. I would love to buy her a watch - but not that watch

It is interesting that the fashion seems to be large gold men's watches. The Rolex Daytona being a prime example:
