tissot visodate / stowa marine
As I have given up trying to locate the special edition Hamilton with the ivory face (one day, I'll find it). I have come up with a few potential candidates for an early Christmas present to myself. I have a budget of about 600 notes and it's for everyday use:
First up, a couple of Hamilton Khakis - both under £400 and look great.
These Zeno caught my eye, the most expensive is mid £500.
That gives you an idea of the style I'm looking for. Do you have any recommendations of brands that tick the boxes?

Good luck everybody. Have a good one.
I'd have thought a Speedbird would be just the ticket.
Another vote for a speedbird here (mines a III)
The Tissot Visodate's are nice.Originally Posted by seikopath
The Stowa pips it though!
Any recommended outlets?
I'll have a look at the speedbird.
The speedbird is a fine watch - however, it'd need to be a leather strap. Thanks for the advice so far.
It's marginally over your budget by £45 but what about a Sinn 556? Available with or without numerals now.
On a black strap, that looks great. Where did you find it for sale?Originally Posted by matt74

556A (with numerals) at the top and the 556 without a little further down. I'm slightly biased though...Here's mine on a velcro.
Lorus Titanium, £30 from H. Samuels! Has the look you are after...at 5% of the price!
No brainer. Mine is well over four years old and still looks like new.

The issue I have now is that I'm going to get a black face, then I'll want white, then a diver, it doesn't stop.
Thank you for the recommendations.
If it doesn't have to be a brand new watch, then you can consider vintage Zeniths. The one I saw was about 550 pounds and the quality was superb.
Speedbird for me too, maybe a Stowa.

Currently it's between a Stowa or the Sinn...Originally Posted by gray
The real issue is you're 2 posts of access to SC. Then you're really in trouble. The face is a lovely gloss black on the 556. I have to say though. If that Damasko posted above floats your boat then by all accounts they are lovely things.Originally Posted by daxr

I'd be buying the Damasko DA37 on SC at the moment.
I have no connection with the seller.
As Mrs. Doyle would say, go on, go on, go on, go on.......

Another vote for Damasko.
This time a DA36, shown next to a SB3.
The DA36 is actually larger at 40mm compared to 39mm for the SB3, but as it is sitting on its bracelet the SB3 is closer to the camera.
Ian.
Steinhart Marine Chronometer.
Perhaps a little too dressy?
Is that really titanium case for £30

Not my picture, I haven't taken any yet.

Some very interesting pieces suggested but my vote would have to go with the Sinn.
This would get my vote, lovely thing.Originally Posted by matt74
I do indeed, I'll own a Hammy one day, but it's got to be the right one - I'd own one but it would never live up to the SE ivory faced one, I have been obsessing about. ;) Get pics up of your new purchase!Originally Posted by Routers
I am leaning heavily towards then Sinn right now. I'll sleep on it and will make a final decision tomorrow!
Thanks for the suggestions everyone, if you have anymore, keep them coming.
Nothing wrong with the Hamilton Khaki you first posted, but the Sinn 556 is a lovely watch and highly recommended.
regards,
Nick
I have the Hamilton Khaki auto and the chrono version as well,I would go for the auto but the leather strap sucks and will be looking to replace it soon/ I have the 42mm version, for some reason the 38 mm version just didn't feel right. As for the Sinn 556 I have seen it in the flesh and would say it's a cracker but do also consider the 556a version as well.Happy hunting
I'm beginning to think the meaning of life is Sinn 556.
With or without the numerals, though!?
The Stowa gets my vote 8)
This, of course, is the next great conundrum.Originally Posted by daxr
Stowa Marine with white face and brown strap is on the hitlist for a purchase sometime next year. ;)
Lovely. Unfortunately Stowa aren't shipping till February 2012. Which in fairness might be a good thing!Originally Posted by Tjaps

But that probably doesn't help.
That Hamilton Khaki with the pale face looks good. I have the 42mm black version and they are excellent watches in my opinion. Failing that, I second the suggestion of the Stowa Marine. Fabulous value for what they cost:
You start of by saying you can't find the special edition Hamilton with the ivory face. The other options look similar, in my opinion never go for second best even if it takes time. It looks like you are trying to find an alternative for something that will still haunt you even if you buy something else now. So either make sure you buy something else "for the time being" and pursue it like that or buy something completely different that you might keep one day if you have found the special edition Hamilton.
Edit: might help if you post the Hamilton model number as well (might have done so in other thread), few extra eyes won't hurt. Use a google alert on the hamilton number to alert you of any available watches across the web.
A couple of outsiders...
Mondia? Yours for £400
or a Marcello C at £450
How about a Glycine Combat 6?
Cheers,
Erik
I have been looking for some time, there's some dodgy sales sites that are offering them for some pretty high costs, so I'll wait until one becomes available one day. The couple on my short list I like on merit not because they look like the hamilton, thanks for the advice though - it's a dangerous game, but I'm in no rush... The order goes in for the Sinn tomorrow and the Stowa can wait until next year given that they're not shipping until Feb 2012. The Stowa on the brown strap though, looks like a fine watch!
Thanks for the suggestions, guys.
I've owned a lot of these watches....!
Stowa wears big, Hamilton at 38mm was too small but looked great (black faced one), the SB III I sold, and the 556 on bracelet is on my wrist as I type.
Never owned a Damasko mind.
Go for the that YOU want the most! For me it is the 556...
