New chrono - Seiko Gen 1

Picked this up a couple of weeks ago - the crystal was badly scratched so I've had it replaced; quite happy with the result.

From 1988; it'll join my 50s one-button Lemania and 70s Hamilton. Still a couple of decades to go...

Thanks guys - although I'll try outdoors at the weekend - that pic is cropped, indoors and hand held, so not great.

Oddly enough, I think that the Gen 1 was the first "proper" watch I ever actually wanted, and have finally got one, via Precista, Rolex, Tudor, IWC, JLC, Omega etc...

    With (presumably) original crystal:

Maybe gave it a bit of character, but the case is pretty good and the hands and dial superb, so just felt it deserved a bit of TLC.

Very nice. I still see a few people wearing these which were issued to them, which isn't bad for watches that will be well into their third decade.

I have a 1995-issue Gen 2 but your version has a much more balanced dial plus the quality jewelled movement. Mine has quite a scratched crystal so it would be nice to get it replaced - where did you get yours done and how much was it?

It cost a tenner from this guy - real name is Joel http://www.tic-toc-man.com/

Not the best website in the world but I've used him for a few small jobs and always been happy.

Very nice. I can see I'm going to have to try one myself.
Was it £10 fitted for the crystal?

I have always liked the Seiko Chrono and they are getting costly now if they are in good condition and are becoming hard to find. A friend got one from Chronomaster but looking at his site today they are clearly getting few and far between http://chronomaster.co.uk/vintage_military_watches.htm having said that Neil always seems to have loads of nice bits and pieces such as good CWC G10s for around £60-£70.

    This is a nice piece.
I've had a civil 7a28 that looks such as the military version.
