My free iPhone - how bloke math works

So today I chopped in my 3GS at the recyclers to offset the cost on a 4s. Here's how I see it

Bought 3GS for 335 on SC
less amount I got for recycling my garbage Nokia 5800 -£95
Credit the £115 I got back for the iPhone today
Add the savings over a year plus from going sim-only at about £15/month
= free iPhone and costs of this one covered too.
    Result!

Women just can't see it this way unless it's with buying shoes or bags and then the mysterious law of cupboard depreciation kicks in so every week it's hidden it loses 25% of its value. :D

Interesting and good blokes logic, my only comment on your deal is O2 offered me similar money for my iPhone 3 a year go but I sold it on the bay for £260. That said it was immaculate as always cased. However your deal was simpler with no come come back so quids in as they say.

It works this way for me. I get a discount through O2 because of my occupation of 30%, therefore I pay approx' £35 a month (inc tax) on an 18 month contract and then get in excess of £250 back for the phone at the end of the contracts term. This work out something like £20 a month for 1000 mins and free txt. Cheeky.

My 3GS was pretty battered with the usual issues of dodgy silent button, sticking home button and cracked case which is why I went down the recycling route and considering the state of the phone I was happy with the amount recovered.

Now you can apply proper blokes Maths and apply this saving to several other items!!

e.g. You saved £300+ on the phone and got a free phone
You can then justify a more expensive TV due to the £300 savings
Not to mention a a new camera with the £300 savings
Suddenly the £300 savings can be used on that stag-do next year etc...

My 3GS is in the same dodgy state so I am interested. Did you recycle through apple or someone else?

I used fonebank, partly cos their office is a few minutes walk from mine and wanted to ensure it would be accepted as "working" cos if not I'd just have kept it as a spare rather than take £50 or thereabouts for it.

My son reckons O2 will give £110 for a 3gs regardless of condition.

I was thinking of doing the same type of thing using the trade in value to offset my upgrade cost. I can pretty much argue anything in my own mind if I want it!

    Good work...
