Its all a bit to much for me

I was flicking through that this morning too. Absolutely off the scale. Page after page after page of mind-boggling amazing watches. Just when you though you'd seen it all, along comes the Sub from Live and Let Die!
Here's a thought: there is so much rare stuff in there, more than I can remember seeing before, that I wonder if some of the big collectors are calling the top of the market?

Its a good point, however it might be that some collectors are finding themselves a bit cash strapped at the moment and need to part with a few assets to balance the books. Personally my view is that these watches will be worth more in 5 years time than they are today, so no I do not believe they will every really reach the "top of the market" - I might be wrong, but people said that about the classic car market 10 years ago and it recovered - the only difference was that buyers became much more choosy about what they bought.
Oh to be rich at the moment - there was seldom a page when I thought - i do not like that

Never knew there was a platinum Speedmaster, lot66?
I like the Daniel Quare PW as well, lot 47
Just amazing to see so many watches in one place, you think that eventually they would run out of buyers?
Some beautiful watches (Pateks) there, but also some dogs.
Loads of strange watches. That weird Rolex/no 21 - never seen that one before
Have seen pics of the outlandish GP/no 98, but doubt I will ever see it in the ... platinum.
Thanks for posting. That catalogue is amazing to look through.
regards,
Nick
Built in Adobe Scene 7 (not a fan!) so can't view on my iPad. Will have to view from pc later
Sounds worth viewing though
OMG. Will go to their office here in HK to check those out. An 18k cal 1510? How many of those were made?
What a pleasant way to while away a train journey.....
Pure filth, from the ridiculous to the sublime.
Wow. Here I thought the antiquorum catalogues were good.
Did anyone take a liking to the steel 1920s Patek? I don't know anything about the reference, however, it looks stunning to me. One day, God willing, I'll buy that
Look at the Roger Moore submariner! I usually hate any DLC'd Rolex models but THAT is stunning! Also, the price of the white gold Submariner seems very reasonable if it hits estimate.
Had quite a good look through now and, if you disregard anything over £20,000, there's not an awful lot left! This one is for oligarchs only. Which is a shame; I've bought a handful of watches over the years from Christies, but this is far, far beyond me.
Amongst all the Patek porn, that was the one which caught my eye!Originally Posted by wisbech
My goodness. Pretty much every watch i've ever wanted crammed into one catalogue. Original Honeycomb/lightning bolt Milgauss .. yes please!
Bugger, I've dribbled drool over my keyboard!
Lovely. I found the square cased Rolex chronos strangely alluring.
The Euromillions winner could have a field day !

Monday 14th Nov is now in my diary.... :)
Thanks Neil
Some of the estimates for the more run of the mill stuff seemed almost resonable
Wow! Super WIS filth lol
Page 69 is a 'wow' story...
The pocket watch on page 70 a dream...
Some "value" to be had?
White gold sub on page 14 with guide price of EUR8,400-12,000 ???
Someone with auction experience will have to enlighten me - are these catalogue prices meaningless?
^^^^ Yeah someone on here bought a Blue Sub. Caused quite a stir :D .
Indeed.
I've got to the end of the catalogue now - the bit about the 25% buyers premium (and duty/VAT on import back to UK I guess)...........
Pretty much. From memory, relatively few failed to sell last time. Most went higher than their estimate. Some went bonkers. They had a delightful little Rolex last time, a ref; 4157, the estimate was around 3500CHF. In the end, for some inexplicable reason, it went for 93,000CHF. And that was excluding buyers premium, VAT, delivery etc...Originally Posted by nickg

Lovely-jubbly.
I just had to LOL @ "THE PROPERTY OF A LADY", "THE PROPERTY OF A EUROPEAN LADY", and "THE PROPERTY OF A DISTINGUISHED GENTLEMAN", etc, etc. Is it 1911 again at Christies?
Some absolutely filthy watch porn...
The Milgauss is a beaut isn't it!
I was getting all ready to register for a laugh but then noticed it wasn't in London but Geneva, that stuffs that! :P
I have no experience with auctions... Can good deals be made buying this way, when you consider all the the costs as well?
.....Wow, I am still wiping the Drool from my Keyboard!
I specially like the (true)Panerai trilogy, the Bond 5513 and the Gold Speedy from 69... :drunken:
of course a couple of the PP are absolutely amazing ( I have a thing for teh Worldtimers...), but I am definatly to pooor for that! :(
Not from Christie's and especially not in a high-profile sale, I suspect.Originally Posted by o u t a t i m e
I think there are still occasional bargains to be had from small local auctions (but my experience is also limited).
Hi

I bid up to $2.1 million for one of the Pateks but it slipped away for 2.2!
Some truly mind boggling prices and watches there
