How about an IWC Portuguese?
Well, been out visiting the ADs looking for the next purchase which has to be white dialed, probably a dress watch and no smaller than 48mm (maybe 46mm if it has no bezel at all!)
Tried a Transocean, mainly because I love them and, as much as I loved it, I knew if I bought it, 2 weeks later it would be sold.
Looked at many but nothing out there fits the bill. None of the U-Boat/TWSteel etc. tickle my fancy. I find myself nearly buying old pocket watch conversions (PP and Omega being favourites) but I know from some reading on here, they aren't the most reliable.
Any ideas anyone ?

Well, as you don't mention budget, how about a Bentley for Breitling. Not exactly dress but for a very large wrist close enough perhaps and dress watches don't tend to get too oversized.
Or how about a Hublot Bigger Bang?
Or a Corum Admirals Cup?
If you are determined to go dress then a converted pocket watch may be your best option for a white dial.
Happy hunting

Would love a IW500107 but this is still too small. And too expensive :shock:Originally Posted by PhiloStan
You are right Gray, I didn't mention budget which certainly doesn't stretch to Hublot territory. Currently in the sub £2k market as this is all she'll let me spend.Originally Posted by gray
Not that either would have been on my list any way....they are a little graceless for my taste.
As far as the Bentley....way too busy. I tried a Montbrillaint on today and the thin bezel does make a difference but the style is a little too Breitling I'm afraid.
My 50mm Ritmo Mundo...
Well you didn't say whether you wanted an every day watch.
Omega has some really simply stunning designs and I also like the high end citizen and seiko ones (I think the latter are the grand masters or something)
More of an Any day watch :shock:Originally Posted by darrenw
That's a large white watch, not a large dial. BTW, what kind of typeface have they been using for the dial. the 5 looks distinctly odd.Originally Posted by darrenw

Got a new watch, divers watch it is, had to drown the bastard to get it!
Seconded. I looked them up, expensive as wellOriginally Posted by Daddelvirks

Have you looked at the Omega Railmaster XXL. Its in your size range and is smart enough for dress I'd have thought.
Never seen a white one though.
Guys I'm hurt... Not :mrgreen:Originally Posted by Fr Jack

I'm not one for a collection of every model Rolex or someone else makes, it's variety for me.
And I do believe the brief was 'Large White Dialed Watch' and not a 'Large Dial White Watch', so there ner !!
As for the type face of the '5', no idea, almost looks like a misprint, but I don't care, it's pretty, well that's what my wife and daughter think. Anyway, must dash, I'm off to my 'cup cake course'

would go quite well on the wrist of a white Range Rover Sport driver.
That's the wrist holding the iPhone, not the one straight out over the steering wheel.

Actually I don't. But that's Citroen's fault for losing the deposit. T*ssers. Lost them the sale of a DS4 too (for now, anyway, and that's definitely a stylish car).Originally Posted by darrenw
Anyway, anyone found a white-faced watch to try & get back on the subject!?
I couldn't find what I wanted so sourced the parts & had these custom built :D .....

^^^ This reminded me of this converted pocket watch I spotted earlier today on ebay...

Strictly, not a white dial but size wise it fits the bill.
Sorry about the lack of replies today, been at work.
Dapper, they are just what I'm looking for....how much did they cost you and how much would ya let one go for ?
I already have a Railmaster XXL and they have black dials. Really hoping they will bring a SS version of the white gold ltd edition that had the beautiful blue Omega hands.
In that I can't imagine wearing that on any day !!Originally Posted by andyb190
a 48mm DRESS watch??! Is that wise, or even civilised? ;)
Are you perhaps going to a dinner party and need to eat your entrees off it?
9 inch wrists means that the normal 42-44mm doesn't cut it I'm afraid.Originally Posted by The Hack
9 inch wrists? Less bloody dinner parties! ;-)
Only jealous cos the PAM I'm after will look massive on me.
That is all bone :)Originally Posted by SimonG156
Well, not much advice coming through which confirms what I already feared......there's really nothing out there. So it'll have t be a pocket watch conversion.
Those of you in the know about PWs, can you offer some advice to their care and which are the best watch/movement/dials to look for. There's a very nice PP on the bay at the moment (vid below) but is it right for a vintage newbie ?

Zeno watches are good quality & worth considering. Quite a few 47.5mm in their 'Oversized' collection.....http://www.zeno-watch.ch/en/watches.html
Dapper,
Thanks for the offer of the links......will take you up on them. As far as the Zeno's go, I like them and have a quartz as my beater but they don't seem dressy enough.
Been perving over this little beauty .......what do we think ?

Bloomin' lovely :drunken:

It's on the bay at the moment
So it is, a little large for me but I do like it a lot

Hold on a bloody minute. Since my last post it's gone up by 200 quid. I thought we had an unwritten rule oh here. I saw it first, so you can't bid on it, ok ?
Getting close to being too rich for me too, but I can't stop playing the vid so I can listen to those chimes
Went for £3k in the end.....is that a good price ?
Agree. That is all. Fits the bill. That other one is horrible!Originally Posted by PhiloStan
The Portugese is little on the small side but if I found one at a reasonable price...........
But I know that I wouldn't wear it as often
Rolex Explorer II...?? Decent used for a smidge over 2k
Please don't take offence, but you won't be here long if you don't read the thread.....or even the title. :)
The Explorer looks like a teenage girls watch on my wrists. I can never wear any Rolex as they are all waaaaay too small for my wrists.
How about the Longines limited edition Lindberg Atlantic? A friend has just bought one and it is big, white and beautiful.
52mm big enough?

How about a Breitling SuperOcean Heritage 46mm?
Nice as a dress watch when on a mesh, great casual watch when on a leather.
Can't post any links as I'm mobile and the signal is crap!
Stef
I would go for one of these: http://www.h2o-watch.com
Very build and you can even customize...dials, hands, etc.
Good luck!
This is well over budget - but as 47mm, white dialled, dress(ish) watches go this is pretty awesome
http://www.gorchfockwatches.com/flash.php?p=thewatch
And it comes in a very cool chronometer box.
White Breitling Heritage.
Dressy and large. Well, if you take the 46mm

This one is 44.25mm so not too far off.....
modern white
more modern white
classic white
depends on the dinner party white
And you can watch a film on it discreetly if the event is boring.
Might be a bit small ( 41mm~ ), though apparently it "wears larger"
