I love mine! :love4:
Hi
Was looking at Breitling Top Time
What's people impressions of them, are they a good buy ?
Regards
GL
I love mine! :love4:
Very classy watches; Breitling before the bling took over. A good buy at the right price but some will find them a little small.
Stunning, my favourite Top Time.
I think TT's are great, very understated model but such a super cool retro looking model.
Still plenty of parts around for the movements for these, if you could find one as good as the one above though you'd be a very lucky person indeed.

That is quite stunning.Originally Posted by pacifichrono

...but what do I know; I don't even like watches!
Even James Bond wore one - in Thunderball.
.....well, the dial anyway in a 'prop' case
I tried that one when I sold mine. Twice. It worked :D
The one pictured in this thread has cost me half a pack of Poundstretcher economy tissues btw :bounce: Its no Top Time, but its bloody gorgeous.
I MUST have it.
I love them. There's a couple of them in the window of the Antique Watch Co in Clerkenwell at the moment that regularly catch my eye. I love a vintage chrono.
One day, one day.
If you have the wrists for them, they are the perfect vintage. I cannot describe how badly I want one, but my Gorilla like stature does not allow me.
I could post lots of pics to highlight their beauty and that even the gold case ones seem tasteful.......but you have Google. They are going up in price, some more than others, but if you can get a SS chrono you won't go far wrong. Not many come up here, but there are quite a few on the bay at the mo, but buy on condition !
You cheeky bugger. :POriginally Posted by andrew
Admittedly mine doesn't have the gold dial.
Cheers,
Neil.
How is that a Top time Tom? :wink:Originally Posted by pacifichrono

Here's my TT from 1965.

Perfect.
Is that an earlier version of the current Transocean ? :)
I had one back in the late 70's, i wish i still had it now
This one's waiting to be snagged...

could be worth making an offer.
This is the one to have though....but with a bit less wabi maybe

There's a few on there at the mo' should give you an idea of prices anyway.
My understanding (which is probably daft) is that all the case ref. 814 Breitlings were Top Time, whether or not badged as such.Originally Posted by Neil.C
I think yours is a tier up from most TT's Tom and you are doing it a disservice.
The TT's with the square shaped cases were usually chrome plated, in fact most TT's were plated (although there were SS models) as they were the base model of Breitlings range.
Yours being a three reg 178 is obviously a better 'un IMO.
Cheers,
Neil.
Thanks, Neil...good to know. :thumbleft:Originally Posted by Neil.C

which was a shame, because I would have bought it at the time, they look lovely, and I can imagine the right colour combination increasing in value over time.
would owners like to confirm accuracy/ servicing costs (and if anything is likely to be needed with regularity?)
That one on eBay at 700ish failed to reach half that the other day when on "normal" acution. condition probably being a factor.
That is not bling, its quite understated, look at the current collection to see bling.Originally Posted by andrew
Yes the Top time is a Breitling classic and you can still get them at good prices. The 2 register ones, round case are the bestest
Ha ha ha - good one ;)Originally Posted by clockwatcher

I'm not a huge Breitling fan but that looks very retro cool! Like how it looks on the perforated leather.
very nice looking. i wish more breitlings looked like this!
I like the vintage Breitlings, most look great. HOWEVER, I found one recently I loved on eBay and asked about it on Breitling source - They confirmed it was a fake. Tread carefully as there are a lot of dodgy/franken/whatever you call it watches out there. I also understand some of the Top Times aren't very desirable so do your homework.
so what is desirable and what isn't?Originally Posted by NickMSM
Sorry haven't a clue, was something I read up on when I was researching said 'dodgy' watch!Originally Posted by DS3R
Not a big fan at all of new Breitling, but I must confess that I start to get a bit of a buying itch for a nice vintage. Very nice!

Fantastic watch!
Take very good care of it
As our new playmate jbrazier posted a link to a 'watches in movies' website in my Green Hornet thread, I thought I'd use it to find this, the aforementioned Thunderball pseudo-Toptime.
Seeing as there are many people on here with them, can I ask the same questions (with some more!) again; appreciating they are not spring chickens, how accurate are they? is there anything obvious to look out for/ do they need anything in particular service wise (and is there a trusted specialist for repairs/ maintenance etc? nd of course colour combos, anything preferred, or is the beauty in the eye of the beholder & that's all there is to it?
Neil, that Breitling Top Time is absolutely stunning, I need one!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I like 'em - but I am biased. They do wear bigger than their size and the movement (in mine a Valjoux 7730 I think ...?) is pretty well bullet proof.
Someone mentioned TT's are on the small size, what's the size is this one?Originally Posted by pacifichrono
Nicest B'ling I've seen - yet another reason why modern watches don't interest me :drunken:Originally Posted by pacifichrono
As for some being "not as desirable" = does this matter = as long as you desire it........that's all that counts?
Size looks good to me - my smaller watches are by far the most comfortable to wear anyway....... aaaaaaarg - am I talking myself into one of these? :blackeye:
This one is 38mm and seems "just right."Originally Posted by Janner

Lovely watches and great value. My favourite is the 815 Long Player.....
I think these attract a bit of a premium but they are a decent size at 38mm

Heres mine, not a Top Time but 2111N
Very sharp! :salute:
Well, I thought I hated Breitlings, then this turns up in a local jewellers:
, and I like it very much! Never say never, I guess...
I have been on a vintage chrono kick lately so the Top Time has caught my eye. To those who have owned one, what size are they really? I have seen measurements of both 36 and 38 mm thrown about. A 38mm chrono might be ideal for me, but 36 is probably too far into the mini-me zone.
