I had a sharkskin on my last one, that worked really well. I'm waiting for a Modena tropic to arrive from the US to try on my current no-date version.

hi all.
i have a LLD, which is a keeper.. but im not loving the kevlar strap.
i bought a hirsch grand duke for it.. but im not a great fan of that either as it looks a bit "plasticky" due to it being waterproofed.
im trying to get some ideas of decent straps to get for it.. and was hoping that some of you owners would be kind enough to sling up some pics of yours on various different combinations so i can SEE them in situ rather than buying blind.
any help would be appreciated.

Congrats - i have seen one on a dark brown gator with ecru/tan stitching that looked really good, hopefully someone can post some pics of that or a similar combo - might be worth having a custom gator made up if the watch is a keeper as you say? Also i'm not a huge nato fan but there are some owner pics on here of someone with a LLD on a black nato with sand stripes that really suited it too. Hope that helps, sorry i dont have any pics though :)
No pics, but when I had mine I put an aged cracked leather brown strap on it. It was only about Ģ15 off eBay but really suited the watch. I never liked the one it came supplied with.
its definitely a keeper.
im very tempted by a custom gator.. and i tend to mix black dials with brown straps so thats looking like a winning formula for me.. although on ABP they have a great looking grey one.
Nato's are out for me as im not tempted to scuff up the caseback.
TBH i'm not sure if a custom ABP is worth the money - i think i'd be more inclined to look at other good strapmakers who are more reasonably priced and make a lot of gators for Panerai owners etc and contact them about a possible 22mm custom. I agree with you about the Nato but if you did fancy trying one on it i'm sure a caseback sticker or piece of tape would protect the back from scuffs. :)Originally Posted by verv
yeah.. they are a bit on the steep side.
life was easier when i had 24 lugs!
It is not a problem to fit a 24mm leather strap to a watch with 22mm lugs, and it WILL look good, just go for it!
OP - search the net, there are loads of pictures with different strap options for this watch. Think you find it's a very versatile watch. I have been tempted many times to pick up one of these but never have...one day maybe
Have fun experimenting

Hereīs some inspiration. Hirsch Rivetta is outstanding.
And my friendīs LLD with custom aligator. Looks perfect, trust me.
Ooo. Who made that gator?
I have popped mine on a nato strap, and i'm loving it...
I wish Synchron (or someone) would manufacture a pukka new Tropic, ā la the new Isofrane it would be perfect for faux-vintage divers like this, and a much better alternative to the cheap silicone versions.
I went with a fudge toshi that I picked up on sc.. I like it.
I think I will eventually go gator but for now I think this is working pretty well.
Hey verv, that suits it very well, makes it even more retro looking

Thanks :)
I do prefer it on a heavier weight strap.
How are you getting on with your one?
Like you, I prefer it on a heavier weight strap - although I do like the Trieste sailcloth thingy it comes on - but I haven't got past the sStaib mesh I bought for the date version a couple of years ago :)
It's about as comfortable as a NATO but more weight :)

Mine is also fitted with a Toshi (dark brown / dark brown stitch).
Whilst various owners of these are gathered, I'd like to ask whether anyone else finds the screw down action of the time setting crown a little imprecise? i.e. it doesn't always engage the thread - i have to press the crown firmly into the case and then turn otherwise it simply spins around. I think that the threaded part of the crown tube is the part furthest from the case and the thread inside the crown is someway up and inside so bringing them together is little awkward.
No probs with mine or the previous date version I had. With any screw down crown I always push in, turn anti clockwise until it clicks/is engaged before winding clockwise.
Gray
aaagh I have a wtb out for a staib!
I've never seen one on the lld before but that looks better than I thought it would!
I've never had a problem with the crown being imprecise.. in fact one of the things I've really got to like about it is that when you set the time there's no jump and when it moves itself along a minute the hands are bang on the markers. I've not had that kind of precision before and it brings me geeky joy.
one thing I have noticed though is that the internal bezel seems to shift slightly over the space of a week or so even though it's crown is locked down.
It's a fraction of a mm but still a bit odd.
I can't recall where the Staib came from, some online shop, and not cheap. I don't recall exactly, but it was at least Ģ125 I think.
The hand registration is superb on mine too - and I get the geeky thrill of no movement on setting 8) I've not checked time-keeping as yet but over 24 hours or so it gained a couple of seconds - which is perfect for me.
Your internal bezel moving when it's screwed down is odd and would indicate there's perhaps more play there than there should be :?
Gray
I don't know..
that said I've just had a nose and it's not shifted since I last set it which was about a week ago so maybe it was a one off oddity.
yeah.. they're in the 100+ region but I did some digging and they're sposed to be top notch.
they seem to have the edge over vollmer.
I have a Vollmer too, an unbranded black PVD one - which this thread just made me take it out to have look! Might give it a go on the LLD 8)
It's this one:
Not sure it'll work with the LLD but I am happy with the Staib anyway - for now
Staib actually provide mesh bracelets for many brands - Stowa springs to mind. They also provide the mesh to Vollmer, IIRC, but Vollmer turn them into bracelets themselves. I guess it's a specialist area.
I am glad you're not obbessing about the fraction of mm movement
Gray
^hahaha.
yeah I didnt notice til I re read that I'd said it twice.
it's a fraction of a mm you know.
like, maybe half.
or even a third.
;)
not sure how pvd black would go with gloss black.
I'd be interested to find out though.
I noticed on my last one that the internal bezel would move. I noticed this after going to an awards dinner with lots of applause, and figured the clapping shook the bezel around!Originally Posted by verv
Now on my current one I've not worn it while cheering and clapping and all's good.

@frp422; I like very much this strap. Look very well with Legand Diver from Longines!
I've tried a few on mine but have settled on a shell cordovan strap (cordovan is a bit of a wonder material, see here for more info http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shell_cordovan). Very comfortable, extremely tough and looks great IMO.
Hirsch Accent, loved it on my LLD, or a Di Modell Rallye.
A 19AS on it's original (50year old!) sharkskin strap:
And on a more conventional cheap-as-chips brown leather:
Rubbish shaky iphone shot of a 290 on a very cheap black strap (the holes go nearly all the way up to the lugs!)
And the same again.
The original Super Compressors were as tough as old boots, but that strap surviving is a small wonder in itself!Originally Posted by Corporalsparrow

I saw a pic on the web were someone had put a parallel (22mm- 22mm) matt honey leather strap. It really worked!
I'll see if I can dig it out from somewhere

I just received a Tropic-style strap from Modena. No photos yet, but it suits VERY well :D

Thanks Corporal Sparrow, I now have a black waterproof shark skin strap on order

Wouldn't that be a coincidence!
Love the look of the tan, and have one, but I just can't take to wearing stripes :-(

Wow love the patina on that watch, is it still possible to get hands on one of those?Originally Posted by Corporalsparrow

I don't suppose you have any gator do you?
My Modena Tropic arrived and is now on the watch. It works very well (even the Longines buckle fits) and I'm now happy with this combo to stay :)
Ant
I like that.
Still waiting for waterproof sharky to turn up... re-read the specs and I think it'd be better suited to a Panerai  but we'll see.

That looks great :thumbright:
