Genraly helps to have an idea of what area you want to look in...
Hello all,
With an imminent move to London, planned to happen in the next two months i think it's time I started looking for a place.
Can anyone recommend a good estate agent in London, that I can give a call and discuss requirements?
Thank you in advance

Finding a good agent who will proactively try to find a property to meet your requirements is nigh on impossible.
I'm going through the same exercise, relocating from London to Southampton, and agents are just plain lazy. It would be a different game if they were on a performance related fee.
Are you looking to rent initially? If so then maybe take a look on the "Gumtree" website, there are lots of private lets on there. My wife and I found a great place to rent for a while before we bought, plus no estate agent interaction whatsoever....definitely a bonus!!
Avoid Foxtons like the plague. Fecking eejits, one and all.
They tend to be local to specific areas. Do you have one in mind?
Looking to rent in the beginning. Areas to consider, mainly North London, zones 2 and 3. I know it's not a plan yet but this is what I'm starting with and will start focussing down in the next coupke of weeks

I've used these two before - more NW than N London, but may be of some interest:

You can pretty much guarantee that any London estate agent will be a massive weapon, but as above, avoid Foxtons unless you actively enjoy hanging out with dicks and have money to burn.
I'd go and take a look at rightmove, you'll be able to search by map and pick up which agents operate in the areas you're interested in.
That's what I have done so far, but I wanted to check if there is an agency out there I could go straight to them.Originally Posted by dougair
