    Omega issued PW. Info needed...

    Hi all
Can anyone shed any light on this one? The glass is in fact a very yellowed plastic, I guess some kind of acetate.
    On the dial it says:
    BB 311
    30 Hour
    Non-luminous
    Mk V

There appear to be large blobs of lume on the dial, presumably a later "mod".

Any thoughts on the meaning of BB? There was a query recently about the meaning of "BR" on a PW, no definite conclusions as I recall. I know nothing about pocket watches whatsover so all info appreciated.

It doesn't work. Second hand nowhere to be seen.

Edited: loupe reveals dial says BB, not BR.

    Hello Si

    Yours ? Nice.

It's not a pocket watch. however. It's an aviators watch - fits in to the cockpit panel of an aircraft. Circa 1916 or so. Hence no bow, although most seen have the stemlater drilled and a bow fitted. Nice to see one that this hasn't been done to.

Obviusly the lume has been added later - it should of course be non-luminous as per the dial. I'd get that removed if I were you as part of having it fixed up. It's certainly worth fixing. Is the dial in good nick ?

Can't help on the BB, sorry.

    Cheers

Thanks Ian. What does the "A" on the back denote? Any thoughts on why they would have specified non-luminous versions? And can you see anything obviously wrong or missing in the movement? All I can see is that the balance spring seems to have gunk on it.
Ta for the info so far.

It's not mine, a guy in work brought it in for me to have a butchers at it. Any idea of value?

The A with broadarrow is Royal Flying Corps, according to Ziggy's book.

Value ? In good order, around £200. Movement looks complete from what I can see in the pics. Lets hope that hairspring isn't out of shape.

Why non-luminous ? Well, again according to Ziggy, the lume fell out due to the vibration in the planes, thus fouling the movement etc. Lumed versions were only really needed for night flying.

Lovely historical watch. The numerals are beautifully designed and legible. I look forward to seeing it when it's been cleaned up.

Here's what a totally unmolested (except the added bow) example looks like.
